They test missiles here or what?

Average. Tom Hanks then played quite a few comedies before converting to more serious roles. Usually those comedic renditions didn't go well for him; like here. It wasn't until Forrest Gump that it rose in my estimation. Although there are certainly a lot of jokes in it that everyone will enjoy, the film also manages to make little impression as a whole and that is remarkable. Hanks continues to have a strong presence in the film but he never really made me laugh... maybe taste let's say. Shelley Long did not disappoint this time and complements her role well. For owners this is the ultimate nightmare; grit your teeth when those stairs collapse. I think I would have committed suicide in their place.

Purely because of Tom Hanks this film was stolen via Netflix. Terrible eighties movie. There were very few moments that I thought was ok. A pretty irritating over the top movie too. Hanks was still in the diapers of his respectable acting career, and thankfully he fared better later on. Because this wasn't much. His laughter in that one scene was so over it that I had almost vicarious shame.

The plot was very bland and I didn't find it funny at all. Ok, you don't have to take everything seriously in a comedy, but I found the many defects in the house bland and very predictable. Those rich little ones or those strange contractors all didn't do it any good either. Simple story about a money-poor couple who can suddenly conjure up money to buy a house and have it refurbished.

I don't think it's entertaining at all, just annoying. Glad to be able to cross him off my list Tom Hanks, that's all it was.

I do enjoy these kinds of movies. You can just throw logic overboard and the film just goes wonderfully over the top with one nonsensical situation after another. I had to laugh a few times and to see that apparently beautiful house gradually turn into a complete disaster is hilarious in my eyes.

What I think people run into is that the tone of a movie like the Money Pit is different than a lame movie like the Naked Gun for example. That movie just exudes that stupidity in everything. From the poster to the end credits. While a movie like the Money Pit doesn't have this. It looks very eighties and the music is too. And even the first few minutes of the film you just think you're going to watch a "normal" eighties comedy. It's that tone that I think keeps people from appreciating the nonsense that goes on in this film. Perhaps Richard Benjamin should have embraced that nonsense even more so that the film also looks a bit more consistent in what it ultimately wants to achieve.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy it.
