"it's a cocktail"

Brought this one once, but I didn't really have great expectations. All in all a funny movie that made me laugh a few times (especially the first hour). The story is of course quite predictable, but this was of course to be expected.

The cast certainly didn't do a bad job and the film looked fine. The length was also good, not too long and not too short.

Still an entertaining film that doesn't make you think too much and it did provide me with a successful movie night.

“Which one of you divas uses self-tanner?”

Reasonable. That Awkward Moment has its charm, but also quite a few weaknesses. The charm lies mainly in the mutual interaction between Efron, Teller and Jordan. It is sometimes childish and the humor is of a questionable level, but the actors still manage to sell it well. Efron is the protagonist, but the story around Teller and Davis is the most enjoyable. Efron and Poots are also good together, and their relationship is well fleshed out. Jordan's issues with his wife are not getting enough screen time and making little impression. All in all, That Awkward Moment is an average romcom with great chemistry between the cast members.

Meh.

The comedy mainly relies on some bro-stuff, something that has a very American feel to it. And not even realistically American, but fake film American. And yet that is actually the best part of the film, because the romantic part is really to cry.

Maybe it's because I often hate those rule-romances. Some stupid deal or ridiculous bet is made, of course some romantic entanglement pops up a little later that goes against the bet. That then messes up the matter, how it ends you can especially try to fill in yourself.

The actors are still doing well in themselves, it's just a shame that they have really stupid characters that push the film in an annoying direction. Such a film where the plot already gets in the way of sparse charm and humor and the film pushes the film further into the depths. One to quickly forget.

1.5*
