Old School plot

"All the fun of college, none of the education."

Three thirty-somethings try to revive the fun of their student days. Mitch, Frank and Beanie have all reached an important point in their lives. They can choose to be responsible adults, with wives, children, and steady jobs... or they can postpone adulthood for a bit and have some old-fashioned fun.

Entertaining food.

The story is a bit too stupid for me - why do those romantic side plots always flicker? -, but Old School certainly does not disappoint.

Although only one of the three friends is really nice, the jokes are quite successful. However, the same cannot be said of the climax, which never becomes engrossing.

Luke Wilson is just a boring guy. He also has a lame look. It goes without saying that he fades away in the company of Vince Vaugh and Will Ferrell. The former is quite straightforward, the latter steals the show. Ferrell is the master of calling. It's great to see that everything he spews is hilarious.

There are also a few small bit parts and cameos, with Seann William Scott being the most successful.

Reasonable jokes and a short playing time make this a pleasant snack.

Lazy stuff.

Phillips can be capable of reasonable things, but also really capable of lame comedies. It went pretty well this week watching good movies, but unfortunately Old School is again the film that breaks the line with a hefty insufficient on my part.

Never had to laugh. Even Vaughn just couldn't do it. In fact, every actor fails at humor. Ferrell also only seems to shout and rant and still find an audience for it. I appreciate it a little less. Wilson is also pretty boring and Vaughn can't seem to do much with it.

One stupid joke after another flies by. It's random at times for sure, but never really funny. The humor is so made and so bland that I can't do anything with it. The story is also disturbing. Had expected a kind of adults-go-undercover-in-highschool film in advance, but it turns out to be a simple and painful American comedy.

Visually it is not special except for a few nice shots. The story has nothing to offer and the acting is nothing to write home about. Just the usual show-off of the three comedy musketeers that bore me again at their leisure with some slack, yelling and boring dialogue. 91 minutes still feels frighteningly long.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a lazy American comedy. Not quite as lazy as that lame stuff Sandler comes up with these days, but just as unfunny as those movies and I was again left stunned at how hard they try to make a funny movie and it just fails time and time again.
