The kindergarten parent council meets to rehearse a Christmas play they are going to perform for their children. Unexpectedly, Eryk comes to the meeting. He is the only contestant without a child and is dating Tytus' mother. During the rehearsal, Eryk learns that the charismatic Justyna wants to convince the parents to expel Tytus from kindergarten. The parent council soon turns into a kind of lawsuit because of the mischievous five-year-old Tytus. Eryk decides to defend the boy, who doesn't even like him. At first he does so for selfish reasons, but then he gradually prepares to become a father.

Parents who get into each other's hair during a parents' evening at kindergarten. That is what this Polish film is all about, which starts civilized with a discussion about the performance of a Christmas play, but does not keep quiet. Cracks in the mutual relationships soon become visible. Knives are stabbed in backs. Alliances are formed, broken up again and shifted according to the usefulness of the members. In other words, how civilized facades are broken down when the well-being of one's own child or one's fragile ego comes under attack.
The concept is funny. The film is a somewhat crude comedy, but nevertheless tries to provide the characters with nuances. The characters are made more complex in the course and that is a welcome addition to the nice flatness with which the viewer is showered. There are also some discussion points in a playful way. For example, about children who are difficult to raise. In the end, that's not what this movie is all about. A Night at the Kindergarten is above all a film that intends to entertain. And that works fine.
