The film can be summed up in two words: Marion Cotillard.
This actress has built up credit with this sublime acting performance that she will never lose with me.

Édith Piaf has endured so much misery in her short life that it can hardly be reproduced in the more than two hours of film. You can see a large part of it quickly when Piaf is on her deathbed and her life passes her by.
The fact that these images are interspersed with her rendition of "Non, je ne regrette rien" makes it an impressive piece of film that makes me feel sorry for Piaf and forgave her her spirited, and regularly unfriendly character.

Not my thing. I think Marion Cotillard is a very good actress, but in this film she is very much an imitation of someone and I didn't like that as much. I think Edith Piaf came across as a bit caricatured, but maybe she was like that in real life. Her music is not my taste and I knew almost nothing about the singer before I watched the film. It is a very tragic story, and yet I was not very moved. Well in the part where she's a young child, but when she's older I don't like her character as much and it felt a bit too played. I couldn't feel it. The film is not told chronologically. I find the way it's put together quite confusing. In addition, the film also felt quite slow and long-winded to me. The song at the end really touched me. Nice text, nice ending. A mediocre score. 2.5*
