The Swimmers plot
Sisters Yusra and Sarah Mardini fled their native Syria in 2015 when their home was destroyed during the civil war. They traveled to Lebanon and then to Turkey, where they arranged to be smuggled into Greece by dinghy. However, the refugees were in the middle of the Aegean Sea when the overcrowded dinghy's engine failed and the pair, plus two others who could swim, were responsible for saving the lives of those on board. Just a year after their harrowing experience, Yusra took part in two swimming events at the Rio Olympics as a member of the Olympic refugee team.

Ironclad drama. The true story is excellently developed by Hosaini and is well received by the viewer. It's unbelievable that everything really happened. Hosaini keeps the balance in the middle and does not exaggerate in terms of drama and focuses mainly on the bond between the two sisters. The acting of the two lead actresses is also very good. Visually, the film also convinces with a number of beautifully depicted moments. Great drama! 4.5

This true drama is an ode to the perseverance of a teenager and her slightly older sister, who flee the constant threat of civil war only to more or less pick up where they left off after a hellish journey. The film generates horrifying images here and there, which fill the gaps in my imagination about the fate of refugees. A top film about real toppers.

The Issa sisters as the Mardini sisters - unashamedly cheerful and airy, uninhibited despite the seriously difficult circumstances in which they have to live their lives. But also very purposeful, because there will be swimming, and not just like that, but at the Olympic Games. And yes, that all really just happened, including the incredible adventures on the way there.
How it can still exist that some groups allow their baseless xenophobia to continue is just really not clear to me. Then get to know some refugees, listen to their story.
