Not a bad movie at all. He was somewhere in my memory, but very far away. Thought I recognized something of that lighthouse. The story is well constructed and quite exciting towards the end. In between very nice images underwater. I noticed that these images are very beautiful on blu ray. Outside and especially inside, the image is slightly less, which also applies especially to the beginning of the film. But all in all a pretty good transfer. In the extras we see the complexity of filming underwater. In 1977, therefore, little fake. By the way, there were still a few nice scenes to see such as shark that got stuck in the hose In the extras you can see how they did that and yes they regularly swam in their t-shirt and swimming trunks.

Towards the end we mainly see the discoveries in the sea. Once at the top, the classic books were brought in to see what kind of ship it was now. Between the acts we see the vultures who mainly targeted the ampoules. I have to say that I liked the underwater scenes the best and the always good acting Robert Shaw who delivered a lot of movies at that time. Nick Nolte is never actually a main actor, but a good sidekick. In that way, he never radiates that.

As mentioned, the last 45 minutes are the most captivating of the film where everything pretty much comes to the fore. It's a movie with sharks, puffer fish, and a moray eel. Explosions chases. Yes, despite the quiet parts, still some nice actions in this very amusing adventure film. Big enough!

Movie 3.5
Image 3.5 (Blu-ray)
Sound 3.5
Extras 3.5

A somewhat frightening film for me because I can get very claustrophobic when diving and then watch the divers enter the enclosed spaces. This movie has it all to bring people like me to the level of "fear".

The actors do their work very naturally, occasionally appearing documentary-like. Only the voice of

David Attenborough is still missing.

The environment where the film was filmed also came through fine for us and the story, it is an adventurous whole.

We were lucky that we came across the Blu-ray (Full Disc film) version, the image underwater was fine, above water scenes were still visible, but oh well, the image was good.

It's not for nothing that a trailer is missing above.

Abismo (The Deep) (Peter Yates, EEUU, 1977) - Official Trailer - YouTube

Overall a big 7.

Revised on Blu-ray, where the film looks better than ever. Content-wise there are quite a few problems and there is way too much dialogue, but all in all The Deep has stood the test of time surprisingly well. The film doesn't come close in stature to that other Peter Benchley film adaptation, Jaws, but there is still a lot to enjoy, especially visually. And I haven't even mentioned the beautiful appearance of Jacqueline Bisset, here at her most beautiful.
