Kate is a female hit man who is poisoned, leaving her with only a short life to live. With 24 hours left to live, she has only one goal in mind. She wants revenge on whoever did this and starts a manhunt through the streets of Tokyo.

Maybe not original or pompous.
But otherwise great entertainment, and with the jokes that are thrown in every now and then, I think it's a very nice movie. With the added advantage that you don't have to pay very much attention, because you can skip the plot complications and still understand the story more or less. The blue-purple-black color setting is also nice, great for looking at pictures.
Winstead does a pretty good job as an action heroine, although the beatings sometimes get a little stuck. Harrelson is there, I think, something with the very short hair, and plays a completely interchangeable and trivial role. Oh, I see even a Dutchman participates. I hadn't noticed, and ten minutes after the movie ends I don't even remember his role. Not everyone gets to be an astronaut, then come to mind.
I also like the soundtrack. Fits in well with the setting, and besides that, anything better than that eternal 80s scum and all. Tried too many times, never worked well. Occasionally nice images, but also sometimes trying to make arty farty shots a bit too frantic - especially in the beginning that irritated me now and then.
All in all a nice movie - which I already started, maybe not pompous but enjoyable.

While John Wick wasn't the biggest revelation in cinema history, it still set a new wave of films in motion. And that in itself is not bad. Some lighthearted stuff that we've been enjoying in what we might call "expendables" movies since the '80s. Then it was the muscle with the dry one-liners, now it's the specialized solitary killers who live by the rules until you piss them off.
The recent Gunpowder Milkshake (2021) with Karen Gillan as the killer on duty is a lot better. Both in originality and decoration. In Kate, Mary Elizabeth Winstead certainly does not do badly. But that's about it too. The many neon lights are beautiful, but they cannot obscure everything. And Woody Harrelson just walks around waiting for his payslip.
Nice Netflix movie, but certainly not a great one.

This is just a great action movie as usual. The decor of Japan is amazing. Nice fast paced movie that never sinks in. Only downside was the super ugly car chase. It looked more like a PlayStation 1 racing game in terms of graphics
