A test must show which one suits her best. Beatrice makes her choice on the basis of the test and in her chosen faction she has to deal with a fierce initiation, which demands the utmost of her. young adult.

Like a lot of similar films, they always start off decent. Especially since during the first hour usually time is taken to sketch the setting. This movie doesn't have the most thoughtful premise, but it's interesting enough to see where it wants to go.

Unfortunately, it's usually the same place. Mouse overcomes herself and her environment and puts herself at the head of some resistance, including some corny romantic side trails. From that moment on, the film starts to derail fairly quickly.

Woodley tries, but must too clearly imagine a Lawrence stand-in. The rest of the cast is mediocre, Theo James leading the way. There really is no chemistry between the two, but hey, he takes his shirt off halfway through the film and bearing in mind some Twilight screening, that should be enough for the target audience.

The action is very bland, the ending woody and ridiculous. Woodley is also not convincing as a heroine and Burger hardly knows what to do with the setting. Although he may have been tied to the book (especially the sequels that are planned).

Well, halfway through, things always go wrong with these kinds of films. Once the setting is established, they have little to offer, which means that the sequels are often a lot less.

2.0*

“You're different. You don't fit into a category. They can't control you. They call it Divergent.”

This remains a strong start to the Divergent films. Still one of the better young adult films, with a Woodley who carries the franchise admirably. Woodley is rock solid, and gets help from a solid cast including James, Judd, Kravitz, Teller and Winslet.

The story about a futuristic and dystopian future with different factions, young people who have to choose one of the factions, divergents, and ultimately a war between the factions is nicely put together. The build-up of the story takes a bit of time, but it is all filmed in a smooth way and the training of Tris and the others is quite interesting. Visually it all looks nice too. Divergent is simply an entertaining film with an intriguing premise and especially enough tension and action at the end.

Decent sci-fi action movie, but all pretty well behaved. Nice for 1 x, but will not really stay with you.
