Crimson Tide plot

"Danger runs deep."

Civil war breaks out in the Russian Federation, and the rebel leader favors nuclear intervention. The USS Alabama submarine is placed on high alert. Frank Ramsey, the submarine's captain, clashes with his first officer Ron Hunter when an earlier order to fire ten nuclear missiles cannot be confirmed due to a malfunction of the communications equipment. The captain wants to fire despite the lack of confirmation, but the 1st officer believes that further orders from Washington should be awaited by repairing the communications equipment as quickly as possible.

Average Scott.

Crimson Tide is actually a fairly average sub-movie that gets a bit of trouble halfway through to keep the plot going. The film is built around a fairly simple choice. An incomplete command creates confusion that creates two camps. Quite nice for a film like this, but what follows is a somewhat boring tennis match, where first one side, then the other side, gets the upper hand.

Washington is at his normal level (pretty good as far as I'm concerned, but not everyone is a fan), Hackman was a bit less for me. His character is just a bit too characteristic and he doesn't do much with it himself. The rest of the crew is actually an afterthought, even if there are some well-known names (Mortensen).

Visually it's decent, although I like the later Scotts clearly better. Soundtrack by Zimmer is not much, typical Hollywood whining. It's also a slightly older film of course, although it doesn't look really bad anywhere. Just average, although there are actually very few sub-movies that look really impressive.

Reasonable snack, but not exactly the film to open up Scott's oeuvre.

2.5*

Excellent film in which the crew of a submarine is ordered to fire nuclear missiles. The battle between the two clashing characters of the main characters is fascinating and certainly exciting (it helps that these are filled in by two excellent actors). Furthermore, a number of good dialogues and tension-increasing music by Hans Zimmer. As far as I'm concerned one of the better submarine movies.m

Crimson Tide

This was a nice and exciting submarine movie. Of course, another ''trigger-hungry'' captain is in the boat and has to convince the other to do it differently. You secretly know how this will end, but it is beautifully and excitingly portrayed, partly due to the strong performance of the actors. And Denzel never disappoints.

3.5 stars
