Strong movie in every way. Always have a soft spot for movies based on a true story.
It is a pity to read on Wikipedia, among others, that the reality was really completely different from what was shown in the film.

Honestly, I had absolutely no knowledge of Barry Seal...never heard of it. So the story managed to fascinate me, on the one hand because of the light-heartedness of how Barry Seal manages to get out of everything despite the dangers and because of Tom Cruise's own game. On the other hand, this light-hearted game takes credibility to the grain. Towards the end you know how it will end, once in those undercover operations it is difficult to get out. Cruise plays well, the rest of the cast rather mediocre. Just a smooth, entertaining film that shows once again that everything revolves around money and power. 6.5/10

I don't know if there will be another season of Narcos , but for those who miss the sweltering South American jungle and mustachioed drug lords, there's American Made. The true story of Barry Seal, who also came along in the series, but is further explored in this film. A bit of an atypical role for Tom Cruise, but certainly not without merit.
The highlight of this film is the editing, it is super smooth and looks great.
Yet you do miss some depth and the whole CIA thing seems rather fictitious. A superficial film, but a very nice one.
3.5 stars
PS very weird absurd little supporting role by Jesse Plemons.
