As Mikey wrote for me, Any Which Way You Can is too embarrassing for words. It can never be called a good film, but I still found it somewhat entertaining, something I couldn't say about the first part, Every Which Way But Loose, which is generally regarded as better (although neither are classics). It's pretty much the same in principle, but Any Which Way wins because it's more focused on humor, some things of which are quite witty (I especially liked the mother with the trailer). Even Clyde came out well this time. The final battle was also better portrayed and there was also a bit more work towards it. The story is still a fairly random collection of scenes, but here you could look forward to that final confrontation. It's a shame that all this is wrapped up in a slow, unnecessarily long film, full of bad supporting actors and yet too many silly jokes. This two-part series is quite remarkable actually and it is a shame that more has not been brewed from it. Unfortunately, this period of Eastwood's career (late 1970s and early 1980s) was his least.

2.5*

Reasonable film in which Philo is forced to take part in a fight this time. A sequel to Every Which Way But Loose that is actually more of the same. It's not really about anything, but it's cheerful and fun enough not to get bored. The role of the monkey is somewhat bigger, but it is ultimately Ruth Gordon as the mother who manages to steal the scenes she is in.

This sequel to Every Which Way but Loose is more of the same, and slightly less good than its predecessor. It remains a sympathetic mix of Americana, country music, fights and monkey humor... More time is spent especially on the humor. Clyde has gotten into the bad habit of shitting in police cars. A lot of movies like this were made in the late 1970s... reminds me of the family Sunday afternoons at my grandparents' house.
