Fatter than Legacy in every way; Legacy was basically a lesser remake of this original, only starring Flynn's son.

It's not that hard to pull visually overwhelming movies out of a computer these days, but with Tron I sometimes really wondered how they did it. Visually I have rarely seen such a beautiful film. I actually don't want to watch the extras to keep the magic going

Jeff Bridges is great fun as Flynn, who in many ways is not very far from the Dude in demeanor. the rest of the cast is also good, and David Warner gives it some class.

The film was undoubtedly ahead of its time in 1982. If only games like this existed! At times the technical jargon was a bit too much, but at least it sounded good. the music was really different between the real and the virtual world. Fat 80's soundtrack again!

Ah, 80's sci-fi and horror remains unparalleled, and this is a very nice…

Well, I have mixed feelings for Tron. I can very well imagine the innovative status at the time, and I quite enjoyed the special effects and the incredibly retro 80s atmosphere. It reminded me of ugly but addictive games on the Atari, and later on the PC on old school floppy disks. When they were still floppy. It's enough for that atmosphere alone as far as I'm concerned, but that's about it, because in terms of story or acting performance, this is really trivial at its best. A lot of meaningless technobabble, deus ex machinas and completely flat heroes and bad guys. Nice to have seen, that again, but especially for the form and innovation.

Mediocre.

I know of few movies as kitschy as this Tron, unless it has to be something like Flash Gordon, coincidentally (or not) made in more or less the same period. The film fluctuates between grandiose ugliness and cool finds. The neon lights and weird grid designs are flying around you. But at the same time it is somehow charming. The chosen style is consistently maintained and that ensures that the datedness actually works well.

The story itself is not very interesting. A young Jeff Bridges as a sort of Han Solo doesn't impress either. That's why it wants to start dragging towards the end, but all that screaming kitsch is somehow so cool that I never thought of a lower score.

2.5
