Review !

In my memory I thought Quantum of Solace (2008) was the least in which Craig Bond played.

Now when I reviewed it, I still enjoyed myself enough with this print, although I found the film less than the score I had given at the time. Normally, I don't change much in terms of points with revisions, but with this one a point goes off, so from 7 to a 6/10. The reasons are mainly a lack of a fun story and interesting characters. Striking in this film are the somewhat tamely elaborated bad guys and Bond girls. 6/10

Quantum of Solace, the sequel to the outstanding Casino Royale. A greater contrast between the two films is unimaginable. I'm watching this movie for the fourth time now, but the more I watch this movie, the worse it gets.

There's really nothing good about this movie, except for Craig and Dench. Despite their best efforts, both are unable to save this sinking ship.

The movie is packed with action, it's a very violent movie, but that's the big problem. It's more like a Jason Bourne movie than a James Bond movie. Since Casino Royale was full of great action, long takes, beautiful shots, exciting characters and a great script, this film has none of this.

If you watch this movie right after Casino Royale, it's even worse. An immense difference in quality. And that while this is actually a sequel, the story needs to be continued. But nothing comes of it.

The editing of the action scenes is so terribly bad, I've rarely seen that in a film of this stature.

There is so much cut that you as a viewer have no idea how things happen, except that you hear a thump or an explosion passing by. We work from action scene to action scene without telling anything of a logical story. It seems that everything is aimed at cramming as many action scenes as possible into a movie and it doesn't matter at all whether it all still makes sense.

Other than that, this isn't a Bond film at all. No Bondtune, no gadgets, no humor, an ugly Bond song, no good Bond villain and so on. And then that gun barrel at the end, how do you make it up. Just because you can make a Q out of it afterwards?!

That caused me to lower my score by half. This is honestly the worst Bond film, I can't imagine that after reviewing Skyfall and Specter and seeing the latest Bond film, I would think otherwise.

Outrageously bad movie. 1.5*

According to a 2012 mi6-hq.com survey of the best Bond film, 15,000 fans worldwide ranked Quantum of solace in 15th place (out of 22 at the time). That seems like a good estimate to me: a decent pace, a nice playing time, two excellent Bond girls, a reasonable villain and a fine final fight, but unfortunately also a not very interesting plot, a bad title song, again the cliché that has come up after all these years. loyal service is still (or again) doubted Bond's loyalty, and above all a backward montage that sometimes makes the action scenes no more than "bright colors bouncing off each other" as Roger Ebert wrote (the low point was the scene in which Bond shuts down the elevator – you barely get a sense of how he's doing it). In short, acceptable but somewhat ordinary, and if there's one thing a Bond film shouldn't be, it's that.
