In the early days of the Roman Empire, years of battle are fought in nearby Alba. The champion Horatio is captured during a battle and witnesses suspect him of cowardly treason. Therefore, if he manages to escape, he is not welcomed with open arms and he turns away from Rome. But the city desperately needs him when a priestess decides that both cities should let the war end by having their best warriors duel each other.
