Less indeed.

I really liked the first part, and since this one has almost twice the budget and seems to be harder, I was going to give it a chance as well. In hindsight I was disappointed, but I expected that this wasn't going to be very special.

The same style returns, but nowhere has it become as exciting or cool as in part 1. The countless slow-motion images look nice, but if the film has to score on the fights, it doesn't. It's just too adrenalin-free for that.

Stapleton unfortunately cannot follow in Butler's footsteps. As dominant as Butler was back then, Stapleton really is that soft. A much less convincing warrior, who otherwise does not give a lot of charm to his character.

Green was indeed a bit better, but in the end I didn't think it quite fit. It feels a bit more like a Hollywood movie itself and less like a movie with its own real charm, like the first one. This one seems to want to score more on an emotional level with the previous one going for the action.

It is never very boring indeed, but do not know how to score at the points where it is supposed to score next. And then you just end up with a somewhat duller, more normal film that only seems to use the style itself to cash in.

I have had a good experience with this film. For people who like action like me, this film is recommended. There is a lot of fighting and a lot of blood in it. Special effects look good. Storyline is a bit lacking. Eva Green plays her part very well in this movie.

There's a certain audience that has marveled at 300 when it was nothing more than a wet testosterone dream for cranked-up teenage boys and others who adore over-styled, pointless macho-esque bloodshed. Based on Frank Miller's "Xerxes" and written by Kurt Johnstad and Zack Snyder, this describes the aftermath of the massacre of the 300 Spartans led by Leonidas. This time, among the half-naked muscles, also some women walk around with the devilish General Artemisia [Eva Green] as the champion of endless bloodshed. Lots of muscle, little acting, lots of CGI bloodshed, little reason to give this even one minute to waste the time.
