"Back to work."

Bob Parr (aka Mr. Incredible) lives a somewhat 'normal' life with his wife Helen (aka Elastigirl) and their three children (Violet, Dash and Jack Jack). At least for a family of superheroes. However, the family situation is strained when Bob has to care for little Jack Jack on his own while his wife tries to save the world.

The Incredibles 2 is a late (14 years!) sequel to the original from 2004. And although the first film left room for a sequel at the end, this didn't happen at first. Perhaps Pixar still had enough creative ideas for new films at the time. Since the takeover by Disney, it seems that Pixar is more for the easy money. And if they're wrong, their sequels bring in tons of money. The same goes for The Incredibles 2, which made more money in the US than any animated film and was a huge success outside of it too.

But its success cannot hide the fact that The Incredibles 2 is a disappointing sequel to the original. Despite the fact that the makers had 14 years to come up with new ideas, they are playing it pretty safe with this film. Actually, we've seen everything before in The Incredibles. The choice to focus more on the character Elastigirl in this film will undoubtedly have to do with the political climate of 2018, where there is more lobbying in the film industry for stronger female roles. However, the result is less good, because Elastigirl is simply a less interesting character than Mr. Incredible. Where mr. Incredible often had a lot of trouble taking out villains (and making the necessary pieces), with Elastigirl everything is a little too easy. The story starts way too slow, so the two-hour playtime doesn't exactly fly by. The animation has of course improved a lot in 14 years, making the superhero actions look even more amazing this time. But in all other respects, this film lacks the creativity and charm of the original.

Incredibles, assemble!

Pixar always delivers titles that never score below six for me, and this sequel to the original 2004 film is no different. Although I could remember very little of the original, I easily got into it, and the characters were all instantly recognizable again.

The range of superhero movies has grown enormously since 2004, making it easy to blend in with the crowd, but Incredibles 2 stays nice and fresh because it zooms in on the family dynamics of a superhero family. In fact, they struggle with the same things as a regular family. The only difference is that they happen to have super powers. Parallel to this is the manhunt for screenslaver that turned out to be more profound than I initially thought, when Elastigirl plays the detective. Also the fact that it became clear that Jack Jack also turned out to have powers , and also seems to have enough gimmicks to beat even Thanos brought a very welcome element into the mix. Especially during the first revelation with the raccoon, which was one of the highlights that came by.

Pixar generally always invites a certain quality, and although animation is at the bottom of my priority list, a title like this shows that that is actually a shame. So it's high time to give titles such as Wall E and the two finding Nemo movies (well-known titles that I still haven't bothered to watch), really give some more priority in the coming time.

4.0*

This one was recently on TV and also picked up once. Still a successful sequel that this time focuses more on Elastigirl. Baby Jack Jack also steals the show.

Visually, he looked very good and the voices matched the characters and the movie as well.

The story was not boring and otherwise the playing time was good, not too long and not too short.
