Omnibus of five tales of murderous lunatics, sinister villains and hooded ghosts who roam the dark corridors of Edgar Allan Poe's imagination. In “The Demise of the Castle Usher” someone visits his future brother-in-law whose sister appears to die only to discover that he has buried her alive. “The Treacherous Heart” confronts a killer with his own guilt. In “The Facts of the Valdemar Case,” a dying man is hypnotized. In the “Pit and the Garland” a man falls prey to the torture of the Inquisition. “The Mask of the Red Death” tells the story of a prince who locks himself before a ball with his guests in his fortified castle and thinks he can cheat death.
