Hard to harden.

You can say what you want about Zemeckis, technically he has done some interesting things with animation. Also here, the mix of animation and live action is fun and is deepened down to the last detail.

It is therefore an extra pity that the film itself is unbearable. Hyperactive and hysterical stuff that is absolutely not fun or funny and that drags on for about 100 minutes. The whole "tone" stuff is boring, the humor is little more than pure bustle and the noir atmosphere clashes with the rest. That must be the intention, the makers do not get a balance, so that everything runs against each other all the time.

Hoskins isn't the best, but none of the actors really are. A lot of it also depends on their characters, I had the feeling. Furthermore, a tam noir story (often reminded me of Chinatown, although that must be purely because of the detective thing), so I was quickly looking at the clock.

It's a shame that the technical concept was not supplemented with a watchable film, because there was certainly potential in it. What remains is a hysterical children's film that, as far as I'm concerned, should disappear into anonymity as soon as possible.

1.0*

I remember well that this film was widely publicized, with countless previews about parts that would be seen in the film, such as the piano duel between Donald and Daffy Duck, as well as the opening movie with Roger Rabbit and baby Herman. It was at that time very special, such a world in which real people and "toons" could simply live side by side. Yes, the combination of film and cartoon was not new, and has already been seen in "Mary Poppins" and "Bedknobs & Broomsticks" among others. But a film in which this combination continues for almost the entire film was something different. The story isn't great, but the characters are funny, colorful and each one of them captivating. I especially liked the animated cab Benny with his dry comments. Very nice that just about every show from Disney and Looney Tunes got a role, even a very old one like Betty Boop who was rarely seen at that time. I have seen this movie so many times and now as an adult I still enjoy it very much. And Jessica Rabbit, she's not pretty right away, but she's sexy. And no she's bad, she's just drawn that way

Excellent film in which a cartoon star hires a private investigator because he suspects his wife of cheating. A special film in which animation and live-action go hand in hand and that fact even forms part of the story. The special effects are excellent and from a technical point of view a more than successful film. Fun characters and lots of laughs. Bob Hoskins is not an obvious choice, but does a great job. Christopher Lloyd, on the other hand, is perfectly cast.

The umpteenth revision, 4.0 stars are still better than 3.5.
