Versailles no Bara plot

France, 18th century. General Jarjayes is told that he is to be the father of his sixth daughter. He is distraught because he cannot have a son to uphold the family name and prestige and decides to raise her as a boy, since only men can hold this position. His daughter, Oscar, enters military school where she excels and attains the title of Captain of the Royal Guard. Oscar is then appointed to protect Queen Marie Antoinette. After the peace treaty between Austria and France, Marie Antoinette marries Prince Louis XVI. Oscar spends most of his time in the Palace of Versailles. Together with André, her squire and childhood friend, she closely follows the cynicism, the lavish parties and the lifestyle of the Royal Court.
