The Lorax first stands out because of its bright, beautiful colors and the animation is not bad either. The fact that this does not automatically mean that we are dealing with a nice animation film is also apparent here.

Although the story itself is still entertaining, the characters are only moderately developed and there is a lack of fun humor. The humor is often rather dull and childish and otherwise it all remains much too well-behaved. Furthermore, there are a striking number of songs, songs that are not always good or fun. Danny DeVito does have the perfect voice for the Lorax and the colorful fantasy world also ensured that there was still plenty to see in that area.

The closing credits also looked very nice. It may be a detail, but you can often tell from those kinds of things whether something has been worked with love. That certainly seems to be the case here. With a slightly more mature approach, a lot more could be done here. Now it remained quite childish and it never really got much fun. The morality of nature is also pushed through in a very exaggerated way. It's definitely a fun movie for the kids, because my youngest loved it. Dad thought it was all a little less.

A bit of a Green Left animation but entertaining nonetheless.

The trees looked strange with the colored plush orbs but should obviously increase the feeling that you want to hug them and thus keep them. The moral of the story is nicely packaged.

Average.

But interesting in itself to see how this would form a stepping stone to The Grinch (the one from 2018, same studio). It is somewhat in between those two worlds. On the one hand, still holding on to the American CG standards a bit too tightly, on the other hand, we already have a taste of the Seuss universe.

Visually, Illumination was clearly not ready yet. A few nice visual ideas here and there, but nothing really great. Fortunately, the styling was already up to standard. The Seuss world is designed quite nicely.

Less are the meager voice cast and the terrible numbers. The story also feels a bit too well-behaved, but still manages to entertain itself. It probably helps that I'm not familiar with the original stories, it also feels a bit fresher.

It wasn't really great yet, but just like in the film, the seed is planned in this film. Funny to know that 6 years later it would still be okay.
