Someone is messing around in the virtual world again!!!

So far so good...we've seen that many times before, but here it all gets involved with a family descended from legendary samourais.

The main character is a nerd who is taken to her family by the prettiest girl in class just to convince her grandmother that she has a boyfriend.

And that spread over two hours of cyber combat and family drama.

In terms of animation, sometimes a bit more static than we are used to from the absolute Japan anime top, but a beautifully drawn film that alternates very much from cyber, to drama, to comic and sometimes everything mixed up.

In the first half hour we stay a bit in the average mood, but as the plot gets more complicated and the characters get more depth, we seem to rise to quite the top level.

In fact, they are two different movies. On the one hand the story about the virtual world of Oz, a kind of Second Life site, and on the other hand the story that takes place in the 'real' world, the latter I found the most interesting and also more recognizable in terms of the quality Japanese animations . I found the story that takes place in Oz, especially in the beginning, to be in the way of the other story. Towards the end I found that less disturbing.

What the film also has against are the simple animations of the avatars from the world of Oz. There must also be room for such animations, but I blame it for a considerable lack of imagination. However, the film also has its moments that make me very doubtful between a 2.5* and a 3*, although I keep it at 2.5* overall. Many of those moments are not used by the film. For example, it was not at all clear to me what the family relationships were with the brown boy (or girl?) who was always behind the computer, there is some mystery about it, but it does not get any depth. In the Spanish dub I saw she(?) was the sister of another boy referred to as "her sister", so I can't remember... So I have no idea who that brown boy/girl is and who his/her brother/sister is. Incidentally, a better translation (if that is where the error lies?) would not have led to a higher score.

Typical case of "could have been better". 2.5*

Completely agree with Prudh. A very sweet story about self-belief and family ties, complete with a countdown timer to the end of the world and all. People who blame Pixar / Disney and not this film are not very consistent.

But it's a nice and sweet movie at the same time. Also well made and beautiful music.
