Fatal Attraction plot

"On the other side of drinks, dinner and a one-night stand, lies a terrifying love story."

At a business reception, married Dan Gallagher meets the attractive Alex Forrest. When they later meet again during their work, the attraction is so great that they soon end up in bed together. Dan feels guilty to his family about the slippage and tries to put the situation behind him by breaking up with Alex. But Alex doesn't want to accept this and starts to harass Dan and his family. This is going from bad to worse and an escalation is inevitable.

In 1987, this psychological thriller sparked another discussion around the theme of infidelity and the fact that a successful businesswoman like Alex Forrest is portrayed as a psychopath made a big impression on a handful of feminists (phew...). Glenn Close is perfect for this (twisted) role; some people think she has a repulsive appearance, I think she is a very beautiful woman to see. Michael Douglas isn't doing it wrong either, as a little bit of rosewater. The funny thing is that in the beginning you feel more sympathy for the idiosyncratic Alex than for Dan who cheats on his wife and doesn't take his responsibility. Until she kills that rabbit , then the sympathy is all over. What sets Fatal Attraction apart from other similar thrillers are the 'quiet' moments: Beth, Dan's wife, sitting behind her dressing table and getting ready, and the rollercoaster scene; I've never seen anyone so impassive on a roller coaster as Alex Forrest. The much-discussed ending is the icing on the cake, there is an alternate ending but it's not nearly as exciting as this one. I'm glad they chose this one. That last bubble...

Superb movie. Really my thing too. As simple as the story may be, it is so wonderfully put together. The tension is always there and you don't really know what the next step the film will take. That makes the movie even better. The ending is grand.

Douglas is a brilliant actor and although I haven't seen much of him yet, he chooses his scripts very well so far. The only downside is maybe that I don't quite understand why Douglas commits adultery. His wife is a lot prettier than Glenn Close. But good tastes do differ and Close plays her part excellently.

So I experienced a very nice 2 hours with this and it is a thriller that gets under your skin. Love it!
