Ledda suffers from the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and finds it increasingly difficult to carry out his assignments. When he also realizes that he has allowed himself to be used for a political power game, he decides to go after his clients. Vincke and Verstuyft have their hands full trying to untangle the tangle of intrigues, settlements and networks and avoid further deaths.

Ai, painful to see how dated this film is fifteen years after release. Visually this is very outdated, a succession of bland color filters and 'avid farts' that wouldn't look out of place in a Steven Seagal film from the same period.

I'm going down to 2.5*.

Overall, I'm quite impressed with this one, thanks to the fairly compelling plot, the portrayal of the entire cast with Jan Decleir leading the way, the beautiful photography (I only found out half way through how old this film turns out to be) and the strong music. Watching it twice in two days at least passed the film with ease, and I enjoyed it no less the second time around. Yet I am left with three questions: what is the added value of Ledda Alzheimer's, how should I see those green flashes as a translation of his failing memory, and why are there so many shots in which the tops of the heads have been cut off?

This film came out 17 years ago, and it was a big step forward in the Flemish film world. The Flemish films were mainly farm films or comedies. Theater with a bigger budget. There was also hardly any support, both financially and in terms of training. Filmmakers were looked down upon as art. But at the end of the 20th century, that changed. There were indeed beautiful films in our country, but we had not yet seen Case Alzheimer. Also not much on TV by the way, although the film now resembles a long episode of a thriller series.

The film has since become outdated and has been overtaken by better filmmakers, better techniques, better training, better financing, ... In any case, Case Alzheimer was a tour de force in 2003. It opened doors and showed that we could also make larger films. But if you look back, you unfortunately also see the flaws of a film like Alzheimer's Case. The clichés, sometimes some clumsy acting and progress in the story. Beautifully filmed and fortunately, class actors such as Jan Decleir, Koen De Bouw and Jo De Meyere make up for it. And also nice to see is the feud between the gendarmerie and the federal police. At the time of filming already one whole, but in the zeitgeist of the story (mid 1990s) still separate services that did not always work together smoothly. It is also the time of Dutroux which shines through in the story.

The story is still not too bad, although we are more used to it these days. And the duo Vincke and Verstuyft is not strong enough on its own. Fortunately it works better with Vincke versus Ledda. The lack of chemistry between the two agents is even more apparent in other films by Vincke & Verstuyft: Dossier K and Het Tweede Gelaat.
