"It started with a shootout on a rainswept street and ended in a scandal that shattered New York."
New York. A police officer, a drug dealer and a 6-year-old child are found murdered. The case soon ends up with the mayor of City Hall. His devoted right-hand man wants to know the details of this case. So is the lawyer of the policeman's widow. The clues lead to higher government circles where blood seems to be on everyone's hands, corruption seems to be the daily business and the most important people seem to be about.

Long-winded and above all not fascinating for the full 2 hours. Good acting though.

As promising as the story sounds, as hopeful as my expectations were with such an excellent cast, so great was my disappointment after 111 minutes (and actually a lot earlier).
Captivating, compelling and thrilling, those are some of the adjectives that don't apply here at any point. It was tiring, though, because of the accumulation of names, facts and events.
And Bridget Fonda may be in my top 3 of favorite actresses, but her totally superfluous character doesn't make any sense here.
An often heard comment is 'that it may be half an hour shorter'. Here I wonder if such a complex whole wouldn't have been better made into a mini-series. Well elaborated includes City Hall
enough content to keep the viewer on the screen for 5 or 6 hours. Now I wonder what I was actually looking at...

Reasonable film in which the deputy mayor of New York springs into action when a shooting has taken place. A nice plot that makes the film entertaining, but where the outcome is a bit predictable. The film certainly has some good scenes, partly due to the fine cast. A spacious 3.0 stars.
