Helen is a psychiatrist specializing in the behavior of serial killers. She once escaped an assassination attempt that left her traumatized. Now another serial killer is on the way. She discovers it's a copycat: the killer impersonating well-known psychopaths whose fame he pursues. It's been a long time since I've seen this one, but at the time I thought it was a fascinating and somewhat exciting thriller with an original story as well. You might have seen the end coming from miles away and of course it was quite cliché but doesn't do the rest of the film short. The structure of the story is nicely taken care of and the cast also does well with Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter.

Serial killers for beginners. Excellently entertaining serial killer film, which does remain somewhat docile and was therefore surpassed not long after by the much more atmospheric and more sinister Se7en. But it's also slightly lighter, with the necessary humor, thanks in part to a laconic (and always charming) Holly Hunter, whose character is fortunately not perfect but also makes mistakes and on the whole we see fairly nuanced characters anyway. Even a jerk like Holly's ex remains human, but it's also hard to really hate a character played by Will Patton. As a result, despite the important roles of the ladies, the film does not become a feminist vehicle and we even see a bit of tragedy, finally without an obligatory funeral scene.

However, it rarely gets very exciting, with the exception of a reasonable ending, but Weaver's agoraphobia is portrayed simply yet skillfully. What we don't get to see is a fantastic, hyper-intelligent super villain like Hannibal Lecter, but on the other hand, everyone remains a little more believable.

Nothing special in terms of camera work. And a pity about those flat window glass glasses, I can never stand that, so simple to make it a bit more realistic with real glasses.

I navigate a bit between 3.5 and 4.

First and last seen more than twenty years ago, and then the film made quite an impression. But is that still the case 25 years later? Given some of the reactions, I expected a certain date, but that was not so bad for me.

However, Copycat does not give much time to get in because the traumatic past is immediately put down as far as Helen is concerned. It is the prelude to a new case in which Hudson is asked through his own fault, makes her linchpin and target of the serial killer. Something that was the goal in advance. Slowly but excitingly, we work towards a captivating climax with a decent murderer.

It quickly becomes clear who the killer is, so that's no surprise. It's mainly about the game that the killer plays with Hudson and the overestimation and arrogance that lies in it, together with the somewhat scary appearance that McNamara has which makes him a nice bad guy. Weaver is decent, and Hunter seems to be the loser of the party who, with her cute voice and fun eyes, doesn't come out as a cold and coldhearted detective. However, it is Connick Jr. who excels as a foul-mouthed, trailer-trash, southern serial killer who initially puts Hudson to the test. Nice role by this usually handsome actor who can also sing a fine piece.

Copycat still satisfies as a fine thriller that maintains the tension nicely. Even though the film cannot compete with the greats of the genre such as Silence of the Lambs, Zodiac and Se7en, just to name a few. Indeed that is it.
