“I am not the Zodiac. And if I were, I certainly wouldn't tell you.”

With Zodiac, Fincher once again shows what a great director he is. It's not easy to keep a movie with lots of time jumps, lots of dialogues and an ending that everyone knows exciting. The film is long but for the most part Fincher manages to deliver a gripping thriller that also looks insanely beautiful. Because the cinematography is beautiful and the sixties and seventies really come to life.

You need strong actors in these kinds of movies and luckily Gyllenhaal, Downey Jr. and Ruffalo very strong. Gyllenhaal in particular knows how to play his frustration well and he is eventually completely absorbed by the case. The murders themselves are shown in all its horror, which gives a realistic touch. Just like the arduous search for a serial killer who is very careful and methodical, and who likes a game. Ultimately, Fincher puts forward a clear culprit, but a lot is also kept open to interpretation. A beautiful film that continues to fascinate despite its length.

Messy, unfocused and an hour too long. The few scenes that should be really exciting lose all their power because of the long-windedness of the rest.

Gosh I've seen them better in the thriller genre. It is all rather slow and then the playing time is not a plus either, also too little tension to be really great, mediocrity just dominates in this film. Expected a lot more from it.
