The Poison Rose is a ten in a dozen film where you know in advance exactly what you will get. I think it's pretty absurd to cut it off. In fact, the movie isn't that bad at all. Within what you expect, you will be more than rewarded. The story is well explained by the voice-over by a very well-acting Travolta. By the way, I noticed that his daughter was not born to act at all, jeez that was bad. Of course the film itself is not a high flyer, but it certainly looks good, nothing wrong with that.

Really wasn't much. There is no shortage of ambitions: already in the opening titles we see images of a cinema in a bedroom community where The Maltese Falcon is playing, an unsubtle way to indicate what awaits us. A real film noir, set in 1978, with detective Travolta as a man with a double agenda. Unfortunately, a shaggy beard and nice sunglasses don't make John a Bogie either. With him you're always waiting for him to dance again, and this time we have to wait until the last five minutes before it actually happens again. Continuing with the terribly overweight Brendan Fraser(go seeing that) as a shadowy doctor, and our own Janssen as a love interest/femme fatale. Unfortunately, nowadays Femke has had too much botox treatment to portray a seventies girl. So no face, but a grouch who pays attention to that. Only Morgan Freeman, stoic as ever, remains somewhat upright as the great gentleman of Galveston, we don't need to talk about the talent of Travolta's daughter (who looks like dad like two drops of water). The biggest miss is nevertheless the crass, soulless script, leading to a film that is very predictable from start to finish. Directed by no less than three gentlemen unknown to me. Judging by their names of Italian origin, The Poison Rose makes it clear that the time of good imitation in the form of, for example, a tasty spaghetti western is far behind us. Only interesting for people who like to see a really bad movie every now and then.

Despite the big names, a failed crime film. The designation "thriller" is greatly exaggerated, because in terms of tension the story does not even reach the level of a boys' book. Besides the often obtuse dialogues, the ridiculously staged shoot-outs are sad lows. Quickly forgotten.
