Very strong film by Gavin Hood, a director who also positively surprised me with 'Tsotsi' and 'Eye in the Sky'.
The film captivated me from start to finish and I found it extremely exciting several times. The moment that you as a viewer find out that there are two timelines in the film gave me goosebumps. Excellently done.
Also compliments to the actors in the film who all act very well. Meryl Streep, despite not getting that much screen time, remains a top performer.

The negative point of the film is the ending. A little too easygoing and unbelievable. But don't worry, because the exciting story, the great camera work and the good actors contribute to an excellent film experience.
Four big stars.

Decent movie, but one I probably won't remember for long. Although the film has some torture scenes and apparently therefore should make the viewer think, I didn't have that feeling at all. At least, not specifically for this film. The question can of course be asked how far you can go as a country or organization in function of the general interest or safety. These moral questions lead to the utilitarianism and the "happiness of the greatest number" thesis where committing a crime is tolerated in order to fight or avoid an even greater crime. I suspect the movie/series of The Verdict will follow that same trend.

Strongest points are as always the very solid Jake Gyllenhaal. The storyline with the two timelines processed was also very good. The ending, on the other hand, is sloppy and simple. As if you as the prime suspect of terrorist attacks can just walk out and seemingly resume your life in the US, guilty or not?

Strong, impressive film about the shadowy war on terror after the attacks of September 11, 2001, in which work was done regularly at the interface of the decent and human rights were systematically violated.

Story is well put together and shows the political snake pit in which these kinds of activities took place. With the inevitable 'good guy' ending, which is unoriginal but satisfying to a viewer.
