Nocturnal Animals plot

"When you love someone you can't just throw it away."

It has been nearly twenty years since Susan Morrow left her first husband, the unpublished writer Edward Sheffield. She is now a successful artist and married to a wealthy husband. One day she receives a manuscript from her ex-husband. Susan gets sucked into the novel, which describes how a family vacation takes a horrific and violent turn. The story brings Susan back to memories of her first marriage and confronts her with an uncomfortable truth about herself.

Here we go again...

Awesome !

Original story!

You will be completely sucked in!

great ending!

And so on....

come on people really??

What an overrated movie by most of the guests here.

It seems more and more that a good and cohesive story no longer matters. But that the images that are shown are much more important to many people than the content or the story itself.

And so does the end of the movie.

It seems more and more that the more vague, incoherent or unbelievable the film is, the better it is rated.

So that many people can go and shout that said they understand and you don't. Because it's about either they mean this or you don't get it because the makers meant this I think......and so on and so on.

While it is often just a shitty ending and in the end the whole movie is a disappointment!

But instead of saying it's just a bad movie, most people say it's a great movie so as not to sound stupid because like all of us they find it vague and incoherent but still want to come across as someone who really understand the movie and know exactly what it is about.

In short, overrated, unbelievable, unnecessarily vague and again a shitty ending.

Very strong Tom Ford movie.

As a viewer you are soon presented with a story-within-a-story construction so that you have to pay attention throughout the film. Susan Morrow, played by Amy Adams, receives a manuscript of the new book from her ex, Edward, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. The story that is written in the book is the story-within-the-story and I found the most interesting in the end. Adams's role is a bit ungrateful, especially in the middle part of the film, because she's only in the picture when she's reading the manuscript.

As almost always, Jake Gyllenhaal is very good, but in Michael Shannon he almost has an even stronger actor next to him. Visually it is also very attractive, except for the opening

The ending can be interpreted differently, to be honest I'm not quite sure which interpretation I follow. This is a film that can be watched several times to get a bit more clarity about it, but as a first viewing this is really a very good and penetrating drama.

4*
