Moon plot

"The last place you'd ever expect to find yourself."

Astronaut Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) has been living on the moon for nearly three years on behalf of Lunar Industries. He lives a solitary life there, has hardly any contact with his wife Tess and three-year-old daughter Eve due to a malfunctioning satellite. His only buddy on board is Gerty: a robot. Two weeks before he is allowed to return to Earth, Sam develops health problems that cause him to have a near-fatal accident. When he recovers from this, he gets a very unexpected visitor. Together with the visitor, Sam makes a great discovery.

“I hope life on Earth is everything you remember it to be.”

Interesting sci-fi movie by Duncan Jones. Science fiction combined with a beautiful human story usually makes for the best sci-fi movies, and Moon is no exception. That it's ultimately about cloning came as a surprise to me, and it only gets better from there. Because clones also have human emotions, and the scene with Sam (acting fantastically by Rockwell), seeing his adult daughter for the first time, is a highlight of the film. Though Moon's greatest strength is arguably Clint Mansell's fantastic score.

I am the one and only

This film asks a lot of questions about identity, humanity and reality. I read a lot of comments above from people who miss laser gun action, but if your sci-fi is mainly interesting because it can ask philosophical questions, then you're in the right place with this film.
