Caesar, a small chimpanzee, grows up in the protected world of the circus. His parents were killed for having too many human features. One day, the circus owner takes Caesar away from his familiar surroundings and shows him the real world. Caesar sees how his congeners are treated like slaves and, above all, kept stupid. The monkey cannot bear to see this injustice and he revolts. This betrays his intelligence, opening the hunt for great apes again.

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is a pretty good movie. It is, after all, a raw and dark film. We see how the monkeys are brutally suppressed by humans. Then we see that the monkeys revolt violently. In itself, the story of the film is quite interesting and makes you think.
Unfortunately, the whole looks a bit clumsy and the idea remains that with a slightly higher budget the film would have been better. However, I thought the action scenes at the end of the movie were pretty good.
The acting is quite good. Roddy McDowall in particular stands out in a positive way. Tom Scott's music is decent, but not memorable.
All in all, a pretty good movie.

Revision after many years and increase of the score by half a star.
Made time to revisit this franchise in a week and this fourth installment is actually very essential for the entire franchise because this film makes the connections between all the films very clear.
The strength of this cool monkey series is that you get a different kind of film in each part. Each film in this series looks different and has a different approach. This movie is better than I first thought because the story is well put together. The evolution to a monkey planet is patiently built by first getting a look at how the monkeys are treated, what they should do, the reason for their emergence among humans and how they experience it. Very well done. After that, you get a look at their uprising portrayed in a stark, cool way. Roddy McDowall is simply outstanding here. 7/10

Excellent follow up! Much darker than the earlier parts. The script is well put together. The exploitation of the monkeys is sometimes violently portrayed. The eventual uprising led by Caesar is, despite the low budget, quite spectacularly portrayed. The location of the movie was partly filmed in Century City in LA. That was previously part of 20th Century Studios. Construction began in this area around 1963. This neighborhood still provides a futuristic and dark atmosphere in the film. Very fitting!
