"Where robot men and women are programmed to serve you for ...Romance ...Violence ...Anything."

Delos is an amusement park in the future, which, in addition to a Roman and Medieval amusement park, includes the Westworld theme park. In these parks, all the characters walking around are robots, which are controlled in a laboratory by a group of specialists. Visitors Peter Martin and John Blane decide to go to Westworld and indulge in the wild west. It seems like a wonderful outing, but then they slowly but surely start to suspect that something is not quite right with the robots.

In the review. Still a great movie. Typical Crichton too. Amusement park in western style, with robots that you can just shoot and safe of course because those robots are all secured in such a way that they do not harm the guests. Yul Brunner had done quite a few westerns before and here he pretty much plays the part of his life... again in western setting, but this time as a robot.

Nice.

I've never seen the new series, to be honest I didn't immediately think it would be a remake or sequel of this film. It does make it a bit more attractive to start the series, but on the other hand, the series seems a lot too serious to me.

This Westworld scores mainly on the fun and concept that the film carries with it. Western isn't exactly my favorite genre, but the way Westworld handles it makes it a lot more tolerable. Moreover, it is nice and short and the story does not pretend to be more than necessary.

It all looks great for a 1973 film. The effects are of course a bit outdated, but the practical effects are still good. Some of the action scenes look extremely stylish and even the blood can be seen splashing around.

The acting isn't that special. Brynner as "The Gunslinger" I thought the best role, special type also with that bald head. The rest I found more mediocre acting. All a bit too exaggerated, although they are not particularly badly played roles. Yet it is the concept itself and the fun images that complete the film.

I see the film as a kind of cunning parody of western movies. The concept has plenty of nice ideas and some scenes are very refreshingly worked out. A soundtrack that doesn't take over in a bombastic way and good camera work supported by refreshing editing ensure that it remains a fun film.

It's a pity that the first half hour doesn't really get going, it's only when things go a bit wrong that the film really starts to get fun. Westworld is not a dull old film like there are several, but a very entertaining film with a nice concept. Moreover, at 88 minutes, it does not take long at all.

Have already seen part of the series and saw that they now also broadcast the film. The movie itself is also very worthwhile. Okay, visually it is of course very outdated in terms of effects. But the story is very worthwhile. The running time is fairly short and the film has a tight pace.

The cast also did well, especially Yul Brynner came across as creepy.

Think it is recommended.
