A Room with a View plot

Lucy Honeychurch is a young woman from the wealthy nineteenth-century middle class. She travels to Florence in Italy with her chaperone Miss Bartlett. At the hotel, it turns out that their room doesn't have the view they expected. Finally a Mr Emerson and his son George hand over their room to the ladies. A few days later, George kisses Lucy without asking permission! Back in England, the young lady becomes engaged to Cecil, a snooty asshole. George and his father come to England not much later and rent a place in Lucy's neighborhood. When George learns that she is engaged to Cecil, he tries to convince her to choose him and the true love.

Very nice movie, nothing silly costume drama. Florence, a wonderful cast, a subcutaneous tension and an airy undertone, beautiful.

Stiff hassle.

A bit interesting from a historical point of view, but mainly because of the idea that people used to work so frantically and laboriously through life. It doesn't really deliver a fascinating story - maybe the real enthusiasts think otherwise.

The beginning of the film is manageable by the images of Firenze, but as soon as the action moves to England, the momentum is a bit too much. HBC may play well, but is also occasionally annoyingly irritating - in which I leave it open for a moment whether the role asks for it. And she's still very young, far too young by today's standards to think about getting married, and far too young for the two potential lovers. Furthermore, I especially noticed Denholm Elliott, who plays a rather different character than usual - especially with his later films the contrast is quite large.

An attractive romantic drama film after the book of the same name by EM Forster.

Helena Bonham Carter and Rupert Graves both appeared in their first feature film. The cast is nicely composed. Rupert Everett was approached for the role of Cecil Vyse, but he turned down the offer. Daniel Day-Lewis took his place, and this turned out to be a good choice. On March 7, 1986, this film premiered simultaneously with My Beautiful Laundrette (1985). Daniel Day-Lewis also starred in this. He was not very popular in the United States at that time. The rest of the cast includes Oscar winners Maggie Smith and Judi Dench.

It was a good excuse for director James Ivory to go to Italy through this film. The film contains a reference to Where Angels Fear to Tread (1991). Helena Bonham Carter also played a part in this.

The film won a total of 3 Oscars, as well as 21 other film awards. He was also nominated 23 times. In 2007, a new version of Forster's book was published under the title of the same name: A Room with a View (2007).

3.0 *
