Watched the sixth season for the second time and changed my rating to the full five stars. There are three episodes in this season which in my opinion are simply the pinnacle of the series. Everything is surprising, cinematic and epic. I have never seen this level on the small screen before. The big battle in particular this season is almost more beautiful than any battle in movies. Miguel Sapochnik, the director of the final episodes, is a genius here and I'm glad he's back for the closing season as well.
One notable flaw this season: this is by far the least season for Tyrion, who normally acts as the funniest character.

Two faces.
This season was really two-fold for me. On the one hand you have some great episodes (The door, Battle of the Bastards, and partly The winds of Winter) but on the other you can also have way too many sparrows and violin music. I see a lot of positive comments about the music above so I'm fortunately in the minority. However, it took the power out of many scenes and that's a shame. Better give me the somewhat unorthodox up-beat track during measter Pycelle's death. Anyway, some variation with electronic, rock or no music ( like for instance during Tommen's jump) would have been nice, but good genre clichés.
Also, as said, a lot of sparrows this season. And although that ended in a very nice way, given my irritations towards this whole storyline, I couldn't get as much satisfaction out of it as I would like. Anyway, those are gone now so I hope that with season 7 we can just pick up where we left off with season 4.
Other than that, just a good season. Everything moves at a fast pace, some nice fights and even the most ordinary storylines are interesting (Clegane and Sam). Very predictable of course that both Jon and Clegane are 'back', but I think it's fine, I like to have them there.
Also Dany finally to Westeros and Arya with a nice revenge action. All in all a good season that for me only gets some points deducted because of the sparrows and sometimes exaggerated violin music. But still more than enough.
