To be honest, I found the fourth season to be less level than the previous two series. The hassle of calculating Gus is getting repetitive. Many episodes focus on uninteresting supporting characters (Tyler, Hank, Marie, Ted Beneke) while the main features - the confrontation between Hank/Gus - are unbelievably rushed. The season scores points for sharpening the relationship between Jesse and Walt in a way that leaves you wanting to look forward to next season. Bryan Cranston is also old-fashioned, especially now that he keeps popping up with blue eyes, bruises, gunshot marks and scars on his battered head. But the intense events take too long and many episodes are even a tad on the dull side. An entertaining mid-season to what will (hopefully!) be the fireworks that conclude the series.

Just like the previous seasons, a mixture of brilliant and deadly dull moments. Sometimes entire episodes are hard to get through, until something suddenly happens that puts you back on track. The climax in the last episode is in any case very exciting. It continues to muddle a bit, with an excess of uninteresting characters. And the pace could really go up a bit.

Slightly less strong than the previous three seasons. Eventually you get a little tired of that meth lab and those yellow suits. Jesse with his nagging in the rehab group and his rebellious behavior towards Walter and Mike becomes more and more annoying, and has actually become completely unnecessary for both Walter and Gus. I therefore hoped that sooner or later he would finally be eliminated, but that was of course a vain hope. It doesn't get interesting again until around episode 7, with Hank's sleuthing hot on Gus and the dispute between the various cartels. The story is still interesting, although the new one is a bit worn out. There is also less humor and the emphasis is more on violence and internal quarrels. Fortunately, the acting is generally up to standard, especially from lead actor Bryan Cranston. By the way, I noticed that two actors had roles in the 1983 gangster film Scarface: Mark Margolis (as Hector in Breaking Bad and Alberto the hitman in Scarface) and Steven Bauer (as Eladio in Breaking Bad and Manny in Scarface).
