Killer Sally plot

The docuseries investigates the 1995 Valentine's Day murder of national bodybuilding champion Ray McNeil, who was shot and killed by his bodybuilder wife, Sally. She claimed she was strangled at the time of the shooting and was a frequent victim of McNeil's domestic violence. Sally claimed it was self-defense, a split-second decision to save her life. The prosecution claimed it was premeditated murder, the revenge of a jealous and aggressive woman. They called her a 'thug', a 'bully', a 'monster'. The media called her the "muscular bride" and the "pumped up princess." Sally says she spent her entire life trying to survive, caught in a cycle of violence that started in childhood and ended with Ray's death. Friends, family and Sally McNeil herself tell the story of the two bodybuilders' turbulent marriage that ends in the shocking murder.

Very captivating documentary! Highly recommended. Very interestingly set up so that it - strangely enough - resembled a Thriller. In the last episode, the effect of the entire relationship between the two is once again painfully felt when the children tell a little more about their background.

As mentioned before; no winners in this story.

Intriguing documentary/murder case. In any case, I have always found women in bodybuilding intriguing. Not in a sexual/fetishistic sense, by the way. Purely aesthetic.

I knew this case, but very vaguely. Always dismissed it as a doping-related marital dispute that got out of hand. But this documentary shows that it was all a little more nuanced. The documentary does not take sides but tries to shed light on the case from all sides, but mainly from the perspective of the mother who has been portrayed for years as a doping-addicted killing machine. What the documentary also discusses is how we have come to think differently about the abuse of women over the years. That 'battered woman syndrome', a side branch of PTTS, as it were, was still in its infancy at the time.

The home videos from the early and mid-nineties evoke nostalgic feelings in me, to quote Corry Konings: "I get a very special feeling inside." America was really lagging behind when it came to fashion, not so much in the pop/film world, but among the people themselves. This has now been corrected (I believe), but still.
