I have seen episodes as a child/teenager and that has always stayed with me! Not always incredibly funny to see, but nice and fun to watch. Hyacinth is great. Insufferable, but wonderful how she wants to pretend to be an upper class trien, when she really isn't. The contrast with her Tokkie family is fun to follow. Often a repetition in terms of moves, but that looks nice. Nice and simple. Curious about the other seasons and if I've seen more than I can remember.

Best episode season 1: that Hyacinth climbs over the fence/wall of a random house so as not to show her neighbor that her family lives in a run-down neighborhood.

The first season (1990) of Keeping Up Appearances is a bit out of tune compared to the rest of the series, it is still a bit of tuning in to what would eventually become the right successful formula, although much is of course already the same. But for example there is a scene in which Hyacinth openly criticizes her neighbor Elizabeth's private life, while Elizabeth herself is there, in the kitchen. That was even for Hyacinth a bit too bitchy, too negative, and you don't see it again in the following seasons. Although she does continue to make blunt remarks towards her neighbor, but that is more appearance/clumsiness oriented.

Rose was played by Shirley Stelfox in the first season, but she had other commitments and was replaced by Mary Millar in the second: "Where's that dishy vicar?"

Neighbor Emmet was also not yet present and was only introduced in the second season: "She'll sing at me!"

The unforgettable, recurring scene of Daisy and Onslow lying in their bed also came later.
