Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency season 1

Everything is connected.

A series that gets off to a slow start and in the beginning, apart from some vague developments in the plot, it gets off to a slow start. Dirk Gently is really such a series that needs some time and after an episode or 2-3 really gets going and gets better with each episode.

Very cool how the mystery is tackled and played out here. It's not something we've seen before. It is a strange mix between almost all genres that can be found within series and films. Sometimes it is very over the top. Well in a conscious way, because the makers know that they are dealing with something completely ridiculous and chaotic. That's what makes this series so much fun. weird cats to steampunk. This series really has it all.

Very nice and well written characters, nice storyline, great finds and very clearly made with a lot of love. Difficult to really say something because you immediately give a lot away. Instant Love for this series.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency season 1

I don't really know. It's very slick, but also pleasantly weird. Not all characters are portrayed equally well and it sometimes goes completely off the rails. Quite a few registers are pulled out and sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. Both main characters sometimes get on my nerves; the title role with his happy face and Wood with his eternal difficult look. The makers want to cram too many genres into one series, especially the forced drama part is bloody irritating and unnecessary. The child adventurer content is high. It's hard to look past that, but generally then the benefit of the doubt for the weird content. It was so difficult towards the end that it hasn't invited me to go straight to the 2nd season.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency season 2

Phew. After watching season 1, I didn't immediately feel the urge to continue with season 2 and that said something in itself. But then again, it's waiting on your watchlist and you go for it anyway, because now you still know the characters. It was a tough sit. I thought about stopping several times during the season, but I do want to finish a series once I've started it. But it was hard, because oh, it increasingly became a children's fairy tale from which all adulthood was drained.
Annoying characters, wooden acting, so much over the top, idiotic character choices, plastic props, switching between stupid humor and serious dramatics works less and less. And I would like to say a wafer-thin fairy tale, but the switching between the worlds -and the accompanying weirdness- is something that attracted me. But of course the core is cheap, with the good and evil and all the clichés. So childish.
It's a good thing it was apparently cancelled, because it was clearly running out of steam.
