Maybe not as consistent as past albums but it was released around the same time my grandma passed. The volcanic imagery and the loss of a touchstone maternal figure is something I can strongly relate to on this one. Never expected to find catharsis here.

I love this album, but I HEAVILY disagree that it's better than L'Enfant and The Link.

way better than LES, which it always felt uninspired and plenty overused solutions to me. maybe not a perfect output nor their best but I love the songwriting and the new approach in this one. i wonder how they will sound on their next record!

I've seen people compare this one to Metallica's "Black Album" and Mastodon's "The Hunter", and while I think this has some mainstream crossover potential, mainly the track "Silvera", I see it much more as their "art rock" crossover. It's much more subtle and has a heavier reliance on texture and songwriting than their predecessors, while still being more unpredictable than the to albums mention above, and again, much more subtle. While I wouldn't consider it my favorite, its definitely an uncommon approach to metal, which I personally think is laudable.

Not overly impressed with this album. This is my introduction to Gojira. Perhaps I should try their earlier stuff?

Hope you tried the recommendations of iSui, but you have to listen to The Way of all Flesh. That is the true essential Gojira.

I can't say I'm disappointed, cos I respect and support bands being creative and trying something different. Although FMTS and TWOAF probably will last forever as theirs best works, we can still enjoy that album and just take it as it is. And it's a great album if you only stop comparing it to the previous ones.

I am so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad it allows you to appreciate the album better. This is the great thing about music - it does wonders for the soul. :-)

Utterly forgettable and boring, after giving it 4 listens I can't remember anything about it.

to all the people saying its a letdown, dunno what you expected. this is the most "gojira" they've ever sounded since Terra or Link. It's a fantastic progression of their sound while staying true to their identity, miles ahead of L'Enfant Sauvage imo (< still a good album)

It's too bad all the songs are average or short in length. Was hoping for a 10+ minutes masterpiece. Ah well, maybe next album ))
