not necessarily. people make similar statements about games like nier. especially in automata, where synesthesia is a more salient characteristic of the compositions and the moments they are placed in. the question rises in trying to determine if the compositions being made to fit the sequences is what elevates the gameplay experience, or if the rhythmic gameplay is what in turn makes the music all the more captivating. a line of questioning that can be summed up as, [what elevates what?]. like, even the simpsons game has a final level where you fight a hive mind of dolphins, tentacle green alien thingies, and iterations of the inhabitants of springfield that are commanded by freaking god to destroy you. it's absurd to the brink. and the soundtrack. the glorious soundtrack has packaged all that absurd nonsense into a memorable snippet of life in my memory vault. good soundtracks may not make a bad game "good", but they can definitely elevate it enough to make it worth remembering.

Stardew is perfect beyond the music, but I often wonder if beautiful soundtracks are part of what bump great works (movies, games) into the most impactful, memorable, resonant kind. It seeps in a little deeper. What’s particularly special about Stardew is the way all of it came from one creator—he knew and expressed the soul of that game inside and out.
