this band is such a breath of fresh air in the grand scheme of "90s alt rock bands" their avant garde/experimental sorta sound is so nice and the way they use dissonance in their songs adds a great uniqueness to their sound that sets them apart from many other similar bands of their era i wish they got bigger but the world wasn't ready for them

But I'm really second best toooooo the one who's on your chest, and in your eyes on every size beyond sex.

Yeah. The 'glam-rock' tag comes mostly from their contribution to the 'Velvet Goldmine' soundtrack. Anyone who really listens to them probably understands that they are 'Post-Hardcore' and that 'Pony Express Record' was their magnum-opus.

@Phlunked They could be alt-rock, but are more specifically post-hc. They descended from DC punk and were on Dischord Records. Alt-rock is a much bigger umbrella. At the very least, they are definitely not glam and I'm not sure why they were tagged Japanese, ska, jazz, or cabaret. Other smaller bands with the same name?

Craig Wedren from Shudder To Think just put up a new website - craigwedren.com - which is pretty great. He’s streaming a bunch of unreleased music and other stuff. It’s worth checking out. I heard that he has a new project coming up called WAND, although I’m not sure what it is. Is it a new band? Does anyone know?

"post-hardcore [2] (and it goes beyond the fast hard discordant shit)" What kind of post-hardcore are you listening to, man. I agree that STT is post-hardcore influenced, but what post-hardcore is overly fast and discordant. When I think of that genre I think of Fugazi, At the Drive-In, Hot Water Music, etc. All well thought out and extremely good music.

question is: which idiots are tagging them as Britpop? That is doing my head in. playing PXR a huge amount this week, feels so good...

That's because of the Velvet Goldmine Soundtrack, which is where most people apparantly know them from, I guess.

In addition to the gizillion soundtracks Craig Wedren has already worked on, he's also providing music for Hung, the new HBO show about a well-endowed manwhore.
