Zombieland: Double Tap
Zombieland: Double Tap is a riot, and a lot of that is due to newcomer-to-the-franchise Zoey Deutch and her character Madison. While it doesn’t quite achieve classic status in its own right, when it comes to sequels that do the original film justice, it is up there. For more, check out our Zombieland: Double Tap review.
Triple Frontier
Full of sweeping, exotic locations and a strong-jawed cast, Triple Frontier may end things a bit too safely -- especially when the entire story plays in a sandbox of iffy ethics and grey-area morality. But the film frequently feels dangerous and vital, with some shocks and swerves along the way.For more, check out our Triple Frontier review.
Ford v Ferrari
Ford v Ferrari's driving scenes are shot with real artistry and skill. Director James Mangold and cinematographer Phedon Papamichael put you in the Ford, then on the track, then between the cars, making for some exhilarating racing sequences full of energy and vigor. For more, check out our Ford v Ferrari review.
Charlie’s Angels
An entertaining plot, impressive script, fantastic cast, and awesomely shot action make Charlie's Angels one of the most unexpectedly fun films of the year. If you're a fan of having a good time at a movie theater and/or action movies then you do not want to miss these two hours of pure, silly, cinematic joy.For more, check out our Charlie's Angels review.
1917
1917 is an expertly crafted and emotionally exhausting thrill-ride behind enemy lines. Gloriously shot, deftly paced, and striking in its gruesome recreation of the time and place, Sam Mendes’ film wisely never loses sight of the smaller, intimate elements in a fast-paced story with immense scale and action. For more, check out our 1917 review.
Hobbs & Shaw
Even though Hobbs & Shaw is by far the most removed stylistically and thematically from the first Fast & the Furious, it proves that this franchise still has places to go and people to see. This entry may be sloppier than some of the series’ recent highs, but there’s something joyful about that sloppiness. The leads are all aware of it, and they deliver the fast fury needed. Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and terrific rising star Vanessa Kirby ensure that there’s fun to be had in a Fast & the Furious movie not centered around cars or racing. For more, check out our Hobbs & Shaw review.
Terminator: Dark Fate
Director Tim Miller’s film deftly builds upon what worked in the first two James Cameron-helmed Terminator movies while bringing in a new host of characters and circumstances to challenge the course of humankind. While there’s definitely some frantic leap-frogging involved in terms of accepting why some characters have evolved the way they did, Terminator: Dark Fate ultimately succeeds in serving as both a suitable closing chapter for the original two films and a possible gateway to exciting new chapters ahead. For more, check out our Terminator: Dark Fate review.
