Adios, Che.

And Just Like That… season three is almost here, and not a moment too soon, as the second season finale aired in August 2023. Yeah, that long ago. If you’ve kinda forgotten what happened previously (fair!), refresh your memory and learn what to expect, here.

Where did we leave off?

As of the season two finale, Carries back with Aidan, but being in a long-distance relationship is causing some issues with his son, so they decide to take a five-year “break” so he can parent; Miranda’s getting a divorce from Steve and getting over Che; and Charlotte’s working at Victor Garber’s gallery. As for their new friends, Seema has worn some outfits and is hooking up with a diva director, LTW just had a miscarriage, and Nya is also getting a divorce.

Most importantly, Carrie got a cat and named him “Shoe,” and Sarah Jessica Parker adopted him in real life but named him “Lotus.” Ladies and gentlemen, the new star of the series…Lotus Parker.

Who from the cast is coming back?

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Nicole Ari Parker, and Sarita Chaudry will all reprise their roles, as will John Corbett, as Aidan Shaw, and Rosemarie DeWitt as Aidan’s ex-wife, Kathy.

Dolly Wells, as BBC producer Joy, has been upped to a series regular and might become a love interest for Miranda. Anthony Marentino’s boyfriend Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi) is also sticking around.

Who’s joining?

Though not much about her role—be it a one-off guest appearance or a new recurring character—has been revealed, we do know that Ella Stiller, daughter of Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, will be making her screen debut. Kristin Davis broke the news on her podcast, inviting Taylor on for a chat and complimenting the daughter she raised.

“Let me tell you, we’re in a scene together where literally every person shows up and Ella was just such a trouper,” Davis said, per Us. “I’m not going to share any details. I don’t want to give anything away. But we really had fun and she’s just so funny and interesting.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed that Patti LuPone will have an arc, and audiences will get new characters played by Cheri Oteri, Kristen Schaal, Mehcad Brooks, Jonathan Cake, and Logan Marshall-Green.

Also making an appearance is Rosie O’Donnell as “Mary.”

Who’s leaving?

A regular sticking point for critics and viewers of the first two seasons was Carrie’s podcast cohost and Miranda’s nonbinary lover, the comic Che Diaz, played by Sara Ramírez. And haters got their wish. Variety reported on February 26, 2024, that the divisive character had been cut.

It had been rumored that Ramírez was being fired from the show after showing support for Palestine on Instagram; however, according to Variety’s sources, they were not “fired for their politics or their Instagram presence.” Rather, the sources say that “the Che character had reached a natural conclusion, since their relationship with Miranda had ended.” It’s also worth noting that series lead Cynthia Nixon has also been a vocal supporter of Palestine, though the two actors are obviously in different positions with regard to their security on the show (and their value to HBO— Nixon also leads The Gilded Age).

MAX

On March 22, 2024, Deadline announced that Karen Pittman, who played Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of the SATC revival, will be leaving the series due to scheduling conflicts. Pittman also stars on the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show and the series The Long Long Night.

“It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That…,” a Max spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. “Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible.… Karen and Nya will be missed, and her Max family and fans will all be cheering her on in her other endeavors.”

What else do we know?

More cowbell voiceover! “Carrie’s actually writing a new book and the voiceover is the way into the book,” King revealed to EW. “When we did voiceover on Sex and the City, Carrie had this overview of everything. She was telling you what to think and what to feel. For the first two seasons of And Just Like That…, I took the voiceover away because I didn’t think she knew what she was feeling. She’s starting to feel things again and have an overview of where she is in the world. Writing a book is very private, and so, in an interesting way, it’s almost a direct, intimate conversation with the viewer. Maybe there are things she’s saying to the viewer that she wouldn’t say to even her best friends.”

When will it premiere?

Due to the production strikes of 2023, the gap between seasons was extended, and And Just Like That… season three is expected in summer 2025.
