<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in News ]]> https://www.gamesradar.com 2025-04-10T23:42:10Z en <![CDATA[ Cozy game nerds can keep their Stardew Valley, I'll take this "nightmarish life sim RPG" with Zelda dungeons from Celeste's pixel artist where you're "the immortal herald of a dead god" ]]> I love cozy games. As someone pretty much chronically stressed out, they're great blood pressure regulators and I love the gentle pace of just wandering around, meeting weirdos, fishing, and cooking food. That said, as if I have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other, there's a depraved, cobwebbed part of my brain that's constantly aching for the macabre, and newly announced horror life sim RPG hybrid Neverway seems like it could scratch two very different itches at once.

The debut game from Coldblood Inc., a studio co-founded by Celeste pixel artist Pedro Medeiros, Neverway really does appear on the surface to be a Stardew Valley-like with RPG elements and a thick coat of eldritch horror paint. Nothing appears terribly original, but I don't care, that's a genre smoothie I'll gladly slurp down any day of the week.

"After quitting her dead-end job, Fiona starts over on a farm and becomes the immortal herald of a dead god," reads the game's Steam summary, tickling every single one of my fancies. "Make friends, fight through horrors and pay your debt in this nightmarish life sim RPG."

Judging from Neverway's reveal trailer, it seems you pretty much get what it says on the tin. After waking up from a nightmare, you arrive by boat to your new spooky farmstead and start chopping down trees, tending to crops, and fishing. Tired after a long day, you hit the hay and wake up in an even spookier farm that's crawling with cosmic horrors looking for blood.

We also see plenty of footage of what look to me like Zelda: A Link to the Past-inspired dungeons with, you guessed it, a horror twist. It sounds like the game divides these portions of the game into different times of day, with the player having the ability to advance from morning, afternoon, and evening as they please.

When it's not all dark and spooky, you can just hang around, do some farming, make food, and decorate your place. Or, if you're smart, you'll craft items to prepare for the night and make friends with or date the colorful cast of moody characters inhabiting your farmstead, as doing so unlocks combat abilities through friendship bonds.

With a proven indie dev at the helm and an original soundtrack by Hyper Light Drifter composer Disasterpeace, not to mention elements from many of my favorite games, I'm unabashedly hyped for Neverway, which is bittersweet because there's no release date or window to speak of. Regardless, this is one I'll be optimistically keeping on my radar.

Here are some more upcoming indie games coming this year and beyond.

<![CDATA[ FromSoftware historians manage to rescue 2004 mobile version of King's Field, the father of the entire Dark Souls series, and everyone's making the same joke ]]> FromSoftware's King's Field laid the blueprint for pretty much the entire Souls series – unsettling atmosphere, mysterious worlds, and brutal difficult – and while the Japan-only PS1 original is well-known among modern fans these days, the same can't be said for its similarly region-locked 2004 mobile port. That's just changed, however, as the once lost phone version has been found, preserved, and even translated into English.

This 2004 phone version of King's Field was developed internally by FromSoftware itself, and features different map layouts alongside some improved quality-of-life features, like quick-saving and automaps. It's still a first-person dungeon-crawler that might look primitive to a modern eye, but in the context of early '00s phones, it's darned impressive.

Many Japanese phone games of the era have effectively been lost to time, pending the efforts of preservationists importing these phones, hacking them, and dumping their contents for the world to see. Japanese feature phones of the era, also known as keitai, were a big deal, and many notable developers released full-on, proper entries in popular series that fans are trying to prevent from disappearing. The recent preservation of a canon Xenosaga spin-off is a notable recent example.

News of the preservation of this version of King's Field comes courtesy of keitai preservationist RockmanCosmo, who attributes this work to a user called Yuuku. You can check out the original post on Bluesky for a look at the game itself, as well as a guide on how to get an emulator that can handle it up and running.

If you're a connoisseur of retro video game memes, you might recognize King's Field for another reason: it's the game that provided the screenshot of two skeletons from an old gaming magazine captioned "the PlayStation can produce mind-boggling effects."

The quaint image of the undead warriors with that superlative description has become downright infamous over the years, and I was prepared to conclude this story with some terribly clever joke about how "mid-'00s Japanese phones can produce mind-boggling effects." But I've already been beaten to that gag. Many, many times. Ah well, it's once again proof that the internet can produce mind-boggingly similar jokes.

King's Field sadly did not make our list of the best FromSoftware games. I know, I know, I'm gonna bring it up at the next meeting.

<![CDATA[ Naughty Dog really is coming for Skyrim's re-release crown as The Last of Us 1 and 2 get bundled together as the "Complete" edition, with a gorgeous physical launch on the way ]]>

The Last of Us is getting another re-release, this time bundling both games together into a "Complete" edition that's perfect for anyone looking to get into the games after watching season 2 of the HBO adaptation. The Last of Us: Complete digital version is available now, while a physical Collector's Edition is coming on July 10. Both are PS5 exclusive.

Although like Skyrim, The Last of Us has been memed to death for the amount of times it's been ported, touched up, and re-released, in truth this is actually a pretty genius play by Naughty Dog. With the second season of HBO's The Last of Us TV show gearing up to premiere this weekend, there will no doubt be a renewed interest in the games that came before the show, and with so many different versions out there, it makes sense to bundle the "definitive ways to play" together in one place for convenience.

In case there was any doubt, The Last of Us: Complete packages in The Last of Us Part 1, a ground-up remake of the 2013 action horror game, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, the enhanced PS5 version of the 2020 sequel, which originally launched on PS4. The Last of Us 2 Remastered includes the base game as well as hours of audio commentary, three deleted story sequences, the roguelike No Return mode, Guitar Free Play, and other goodies.

The Last of Us Complete's physical release comes in custom packaging with some really stunning art, and the actual disc is housed in a Steelbook case with the same artwork. The discs themselves have "new, minimal designs" as well. However, the real star of the show are the custom lithographs from various artists included in the Complete Collector's Edition. I already have The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2 Remastered, but these art pieces are making me take a hard look at my bank account to see if I can justify the $110 price tag. I mean, can you blame me?

Pre-orders for the Collector's Edition are currently available only on the PlayStation Store. Both versions of the Complete edition include the 2014 Left Behind prequel chapter that comes with Part 1, while the physical edition also includes The Last of Us: American Dreams Comics #1-#4 with some new cover art and a thank you note from director Neil Druckmann.

Get our take on the new episodes with our The Last of Us season 2 review.

<![CDATA[ "Get a journal, a pen, and buy the game already": Balatro creator says new puzzle roguelike Blue Prince is "already one of the best games I've ever played" ]]> Indie puzzle roguelike Blue Prince has landed to some astoundingly positive reviews, and you can count Balatro creator LocalThunk among the many singing its praises.

"Blue Prince is already one of the best games I've ever played and I still feel like I’m scratching the surface," LocalThunk says in a Bluesky post. "Released today but lucky me I've been playing it all week (perks of the job). Get a journal, a pen, and buy the game already."

A few days earlier, when the review embargo first dropped, LocalThunk predicted that "Blue Prince will get a GOTY nomination at TGA," and given the critical response it's certainly looking likely. Blue Prince's Metacritic score is a whopping 92, making it the top-rated game of the year ahead of Split Fiction, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Monster Hunter Wilds. Our own glowing four-star Blue Prince review is among the game's lower marks.

It's certainly not unheard of for indie titles to secure game of the year nominations at The Game Awards, but the field is typically dominated by AAA affairs. One notable exception came last year, when Balatro itself was up for the big award. LocalThunk has repeatedly chosen to share the GOTY love and shine spotlight on other indie devs, and Blue Prince is no exception.

Blue Prince is a first-person puzzle game about arranging a shifting set of rooms in a mysterious mansion. The game's drawn repeated comparisons to the stone-cold banger Outer Wilds, and it seems much of its depth is waiting to be discovered below the surface. LocalThunk is not alone in recommending you keep a pen and paper at the ready for this one, and it seems that kind of investment is going to be rewarded with something special.

These are the best games of 2025 so far.

<![CDATA[ For the first time in 10 years, Elder Scrolls Online is adding Subclassing that'll let you kit out your build with skill lines from other classes ]]> For the first time since its launch 10 years ago, Elder Scrolls Online will soon let players mix and match skills from different classes.

During today's ESO Direct showcase, game director Rich Lambert revealed the MMO's brand new Subclassing feature, which will become available to all players in June with the launch of Part 1 of the Seasons of the Worm Cult update. Details are still light at the moment, but Zenimax Online did confirm that Subclassing will unlock for all players at level 50 and that all of your skills and progression will be available account-wide.

ESO systems designer Carrie Day said that with the addition of Subclassing, ESO players will have about "3,000 different options of combinations for skill lines" across all classes, meaning no matter what class you are, you'll be able to kit out your build with skill lines from any other class.

Zenimax Online had a lot more to show during today's ESO Direct, including the new tropical zone Solstice, a continuation of the base game storyline for the first season, the game's first-ever server-wide world event called The Writhing Wall, and a new tool that organizes all of the game's features designed to welcome back returning players. If you missed the stream and want a general breakdown of the big beats, I'd point you to my broader writeup on ESO in 2025 and everything that's happening in the long-running MMO.

<![CDATA[ Fantastic Four director says they "built an entire costume" to make the massive villain Galactus work: "How do you film Mount Rushmore?" ]]> It's well established that the main villain of The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be the gigantic Galactus, who is big enough to devour the lifeforce of entire planets. Played by Ralph Ineson, Galactus was added to the film through motion capture, as one might expect. But rather than stopping there, the film's production team actually built a full, practical Galactus suit to aid in making the character look as real as possible while dwarfing everything else onscreen.

"I didn't want to just use motion-capture for Galactus. I wanted to actually have someone there embodying the part," The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman tells Entertainment Weekly. "So we've built an entire costume for him, and we've done a lot of photography testing to figure out, how do you make sure that the scale is correct? How do you film Mount Rushmore?"

Indeed, how do you ensure that a cosmic being like Galactus who is hundreds of feet tall looks seamless alongside normal, human-sized characters and environments, while also maintaining the outward, physical humanity that is so important to his character?

The idea that there was an actual, physical, practical Galactus suit is exciting to me, as someone who, like many genre fans, has become more and more delighted to see actual real life objects and costumes in superhero movies again. And it fits with Shakman's own ethos for the production, which he previously compared to how acclaimed auteur director Stanley Kubrick would have worked in 1965, the era contemporary to the mid-'60s period in which the film is set.

That's all the more reason I can't wait to see Fantastic Four, which is looking more and more like the creative shot-in-the-arm that the MCU has been needing for some time now.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is due out in theaters on July 25 to kick off Marvel Phase 6. In the meantime, get up to speed with our guide to all the other upcoming superhero movies still to come from both Marvel and DC.

<![CDATA[ Fantastic Four director says Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom is being saved for Avengers: Doomsday - "Doom's a great character, but he takes up a lot of air" ]]> Fantastic Four Matt Shakman is hedging fan expectations about whether Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, the Fantastic Four's most iconic enemy, will appear in the upcoming FF film. And if Shakman's latest remarks to Entertainment Weekly are to be believed, there will be a distinct lack of Doom in his big MCU film.

"Doom's a great character, but he takes up a lot of air," Shakman states in the interview. "Other film adaptations have done both an origin story and Doom. We're doing neither, and that allows us to look at them from a fresh perspective."

I'll be honest, Doctor Doom is my absolute favorite comic character (and today, April 10, 2025, is the 63rd anniversary of his 1962 debut in Fantastic Four #5), so it's a bit disappointing that he seemingly won't be in the Fantastic Four's big MCU debut. Doom is kind of the fifth Beatle for the FF, so to speak, so even with the promise of the FF showing up to take on Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, I'm still hoping for a sneaky cameo in the Fantastic Four movie, even if only in a stinger scene.

As for not being an origin story, the footage we've seen makes it look like we'll at least get some flashbacks showing how the Fantastic Four got their powers, but the recent reveal that Sue Storm is pregnant (presumably with Franklin Richards) definitely sets the film's overall timeline well into their career as heroes.

Fantastic Four stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm-Richards/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, and Eben Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

<![CDATA[ 11 years in, Elder Scrolls Online isn't going anywhere, but its studio head says it's "time to shake things up" so that the MMO can stay "fresh and modern for years" ]]> After 11 years and eight fully fledged chapter expansions, Elder Scrolls Online is shaking things up, says Zenimax Online studio head Matt Frior.

Opening up today's ESO Direct, which previewed a myriad of substantial updates coming to the long-running MMO this year, Frior started with a broad statement on the studio's overall direction.

"After a long and successful run, it's time to shake things up in ESO, change the way we deliver content, put more of a focus on testing new ideas, and ensure the game stays fresh and modern for years into the future," Frior says.

"We've heard your feedback about wanting more variety and to shake things up. We agree, we want to keep telling great stories but also mix in new ideas and gameplay systems, and that's exactly what we're gonna do. But we'll do this in a different cadence, one that allows us the developers to broaden our focus and increase variety.

"Instead of a single yearly major release, we plan to spend more time delivering an assortment of new content and gameplay systems aimed at enhancing the base game, making everything better for new and returning players, and above all, focusing on experimenting with new and different types of content."

We don't know all of the tricks Zenimax Online has up its sleeve yet, but Frior and co. did get into some pretty significant specifics. We've heard previously that ESO is ditching its tradition of releasing new chapters every year as part of its year-long adventures, and now we've learned a little more about what's replacing that update cadence.

Elder Scrolls Online

ESO's first season is focused on the Worm Cult that'll see the return of OG big bad Molag Bal, who's back for the first time since the base game's main storyline. Seasons of the Worm Cult, Part 1 – which arrives in June, with Part 2 due out sometime in Q4 2025 – will also bring back a bunch of familiar allies from the base game main quest including Skordo the Knife, Razum-Dar, and Gabrielle Benele. In a media Q&A attended by GamesRadar+, game director Rich Lambert says the game's first season is a "direct sequel to the base game storyline."

Instead of dropping all at once in one big chapter, ESO's new seasonal structure will see the release of new themed story content, dungeons, and in-game events on a seasonal cadence, and it all kicks off in the island of Solstice, off the Southern cost of Tamriel. The new zone offers up two distinct visual styles, with the Western side being a Caribbean-inspired tropical paradise. Sunport is the main city of the island, with truly stunning architecture influenced by a new tribe of Argonian called the Tideborn.

Naturally, it's not all vacay vibes as the Worm cultists have arrived to harsh everyone's mellow, establishing a camp on the island and building a giant wall made of literal "soul juice" that divides Eastern and Western Solstice. More on that a little later.

For the first time since the game launched in 2014, ESO players will soon be able to mix up their builds with skill lines from other classes with the addition of Subclassing in June with the start of Seasons of the Worm Cult. That'll unlock for all players with characters that have reached level 50, opening up a whopping 3,000 ways to mix and match skill lines compared to the seven available classes now.

There's also a new system that organizes all of ESO's features designed to welcome back returning players who feel overwhelmed by all there is to do in the game, which really speaks to me as someone who drops everything to plow through the game's big updates and then usually falls off until the next one.

Anyway, remember that soul juice wall I mentioned? Well, another big highlight of today's stream is the new "world-changing in-game event" called Writhing Wall, which begins in Q3 2025 and literally puts players up against a giant ethereal wall in the middle of Solstice. The event is ESO's first-ever server-wide world event, in which all players on a server will have to work together in phases to penetrate the wall and put the Worm cult to bed.

In the post-show Q&A, I asked Lambert what happens if the wall isn't breached, and he confirmed that there is an opportunity for failure here: "The goal is that the server has to unlock it, so if the server doesn't work together to unlock it, then they won't be able to go to this new area."

ESO's first battle pass will bundle in the Fallen Banners dungeon pack, which is available to play now. Parts 1 and 2 of the Worm Cult expansion, the Writhing Wall event, and another dungeon pack, Feast of Shadows, are arriving in Q3.

And finally, in terms of the ESO team's broader development approach, Frior summarizes:

"We'll learn by experimenting by being more flexible as a development team. We'll make adjustments and we'll launch new content, but we will always work as hard as we can to keep Elder Scrolls Online fresh, fun, and memorable, just as we've done for the last decade."

Find out where we ranked ESO on our list of the best MMOs to play now.

<![CDATA[ Fantastic Four star Pedro Pascal recalls the "strange" way he got the Reed Richards role: "It changed the course of my life in a very sudden way" ]]> Pedro Pascal says landing the role of Reed Richards in Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four movie was strange and unexpected - but wonderful nonetheless.

"It was a big strange thing that I hadn't planned on happening. It changed the course of my life in a very sudden way, so I really had to process. I went on a walk with one of my best friends, and while I was talking about it, this charming little girl very aggressively started to sell me lemonade from a lemonade stand," Pascal told Entertainment Weekly. The actor says he was giving advice to Gladiator 2 co-star Joseph Quinn about the Human Torch casting process when the fates aligned.

"I was so charmed when I heard this voice saying, 'What are you doing here?' I look up, and it's Matt Shakman. It's his daughter! Literally the Sunday after he and I had met to talk about the project. And I had literally just been discussing, 'This is not what I expected to happen, but I think I have to do it.' Then this happened, and as we walked away with our lemonade, my friend said, 'I guess you're doing it!'"

The cast of Marvel's first family includes Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. The rest of the cast includes by Julia Garner's Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson's planet-eating Galactus, as well as John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Paul Walter Hauser.

The Fantastic Four, which marks the team's first entry into the MCU, though it was recently confirmed that the team will appear once again in Avengers: Doomsday - which makes perfect sense given that Dr. Doom is a notorious archenemy of the Fantastic Four in the comic books (He also has a terribly boring ride at Universal Studios).

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025. For more, check out our guides to upcoming Marvel movies and shows and how to watch the Marvel movies in order.

<![CDATA[ Doctor Doom enlists the new Iron Monger to take down Tony Stark in Iron Man #10 ]]> Doctor Doom is now the ruler of the world in the Marvel Universe as part of the One World Under Doom status quo, thanks to him taking the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme from Doctor Strange. And while battle lines are being drawn that include some heroes even siding with Doom, you better believe that Tony Stark has something to say about it. In Iron Man #10, his fight against Doom will heat up as the new Iron Monger returns.

Writer Spencer Ackerman and artist Julius Ohta will bring back the new Iron Monger, revealed at the very start of their Iron Man run, who possesses a mystically powered armor with weapons that can render Tony Stark's high-tech armor inert, which is what led to Stark creating his current "improvised Iron Man" armor. Given that Doom himself is known for combining his high-tech armor with magic potential, it makes a lot of sense that Iron Monger would join up.

Iron Man #10 cover by Yasmine Putri

"Just when TONY STARK thought he had found a successful strategy in his war on Emperor Doom, a beast from below crawls back from the brink!" reads Marvel's official description of Iron Man #10. "Can the INSURGENT IRON MAN defeat IRON MONGER before it all comes crashing down?"

The current Iron Man run kicked off with Tony Stark suffering grave injuries when he was knocked out of the sky. He subsequently suffered even more injuries at the hands of Iron Monger's magical sabotage of his entire suite of armors. He's now in a rebuilding period, trying to protect his company from being bought by AIM while also fighting as an underdog against Doctor Doom.

Iron Man #10 goes on sale July 23 with a cover by Yasmine Putri, seen above.

<![CDATA[ 13 years later, the original devs on "the Mario Kart of 2D platformers" are "providing advice and feedback" to a new team bringing the long-awaited sequel to life ]]> Publisher tinyBuild has just lifted the veil on SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, the sequel to the beloved platformer-meets-racing game. Over a decade later, a new team is working on the sequel to what publisher tinyBuild calls the "Mario Kart of 2D platformers," but the original devs are advising to make sure the details are right.

If you're not familiar with SpeedRunners, the Mario Kart comparison will probably give you the gist – you pick a character and race against friends, picking up items like missles and freeze rays to ruin each others' days as you go. The game is known for its deep movement mechanics, which have supported a years-long tournament scene.

The biggest new addition for this sequel is the introduction of 8-player races, and we're also promised "built-in tournaments, matchmaking, leagues, and all QoL features you want to see in a modern competitive game" as well as "improved netcode."

SpeedRunners 2 is in development at Fair Play Labs, which you might know as the studio behind the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl games. That pedigree indicates that Fair Play knows a thing or two about building on familiar formats for competitive, colorful games. In an official FAQ, tinyBuild confirms that the devs of the original game at DoubleDutch are "already involved," as they're "providing advice and feedback" on the game's creation, and are "also, to some extent, involved in marketing."

SpeedRunners first launched into early access back in 2013, and the devs estimate that roughly 10 million players have jumped in over the past 13 years. The sequel is itself set to go into Steam Early Access in 2025, with 1.0 and console versions to follow in 2026.

After you tear your friendships apart in SpeedRunners, try to bring them back together with the best co-op games of all time.

<![CDATA[ Xbox channels PS2 era weirdness in a new commercial directed by David Fincher about rats finding their humanity through gaming ]]>

Remember that trippy PS2 advertisement from way back in 2000 that was directed by David Lynch and looks like it could be an episode of Twin Peaks? If not, go watch it and then come back here, because there's a new Xbox commercial that's giving similar vibes in a refreshingly nostalgic way.

Of course, tonally nothing can compare to the direction of the late, great David Lynch, but legendary Fight Club director David Fincher does a great job capturing that same early-2000s era weirdness it feels like we haven't seen from a big game company in decades. It's not a trailer for any specific game, it's just an "Xbox 'Wake Up' Brand Trailer," which again, is something I feel like I should be watching on a tube TV waiting for the Rugrats to come back on.

The commercial follows a humanoid rat named Horatio who seems depressed with his life in the literal rat race as he rolls out of bed, trudges through a busy, dystopian city to work, punches in his time, and comes back home. Here and there he catches glimpses of normal, happy humans playing games on mobile devices, which seems to inspire him to bust out his Xbox controller with his little rat hands and play games including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle with his pudgy cat sitting next to him. Suddenly, he's transformed into a human with a big ol' happy gamer face. "Wake up the human inside," reads an on-screen banner.

While not as memorable to me personally, Xbox had its own share of bizarre console trailers back in the day, like the internet famous Standoff ad where everyone's shooting each other with imaginary finger guns, and the far, far more disturbing one (like, genuinely NSFW) where a baby shoots out of the womb and lives out an entire naked existence from adolescence to adulthood, all while rocketing through the sky, before crashing into a funeral casket. Yes, that really, really happened, and in the year of our lord 2025, Xbox says in a YouTube comment that it's "definitely channeling that vibe" of those early Xbox 360 ads. What a time.

<![CDATA[ Jay and Silent Bob make their way to Riverdale in new covers for Kevin Smith's unlikely Archie crossover comic ]]> Two of the wackiest characters of the '90s are coming to Riverdale as Jay and Silent Bob find their way into the company of Archie Andrews and his pals in a new comic. And now, we've got a pair of covers for the one-shot, written by Kevin Smith himself alongside artist Fernando Ruiz, inker Rich Koslowksi, and colorist Matt Herms, including one drawn by longtime superhero/action artist Phil Hester, who previously collaborated with Smith on his Green Arrow run of the '00s, and Archie artist par excellence Dan Parent.

Check it out:

For those who aren't as familiar with director and writer Kevin Smith's oeuvre, he's the comedy auteur responsible for the Clerks film series, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and more films all starring himself and his burned-out buddy Jason Mewes as Jay and Silent Bob, a pair of stoner ne'er-do-wells with hearts of gold.

If that sounds a little… adult… for a pair of Archie guest stars, well, you're correct, as the one-shot, titled Archie Meets Jay and Silent Bob, is billed specifically for mature audiences. And with Kevin Smith himself writing, I'm definitely expecting some raunchy, raucous fun.

"SNOOCHIE BOOCHIES, ARCHIE FANS!! Yes, you read that right - acclaimed writer, director, actor, producer, and podcaster Kevin Smith takes the teens you know and love from Riverdale on the wildest ride of their lives," reads Archie's official description of the comic. "What’s supposed to be a summer job at Quick Stop for Archie Andrews turns into so much more; from a budding friendship with co-worker Randal Graves, crashing a Pussycats concert, a potential new love interest, Jay and Silent Bob being, well, Jay and Silent Bob, and a musical number that will be burned into your brain forever."

"Plus, could Jay and Silent Bob even help Archie to finally choose between Betty and Veronica?" it asks. "SNOOGANS!! Featuring legendary Archie artists Fernando Ruiz and inker Rich Koslowksi, this is a DOUBLE-SIZED, CAN'T-MISS event FOR MATURE AUDIENCES unlike anything we’ve ever done before!"

Archie meets Jay and Silent Bob #1 goes on sale July 9.

Check out the most unlikely comic book crossovers of all time.

<![CDATA[ Fantastic Four star Ebon Moss-Bachrach says it's a "deep honor" to have played two characters in the MCU ]]> The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Ebon Moss-Bachrach may be playing Ben Grimm, AKA The Thing, in the new Marvel movie, but this isn't his first MCU rodeo – and he's proud to have played both characters on his resume, especially given their provenance.

Moss-Bachrach played David Lieberman, AKA Micro, in The Punisher season 1 back in 2017. Micro is a former NSA analyst who is framed for whistleblowing and forced into hiding. He ends up working with Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) in an attempt to exonerate himself, although the pair have a strained relationship.

"I think it's cool that Micro is named David Lieberman, who takes his last name from Stan Lee," Moss-Bachrach said in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. "Then Ben Grimm is this [Jack] Kirby amalgamation. So, in my brief two portrayals of Marvel characters, I've hit the two big guys. It's a deep honor that I take to heart."

Stan Lee's given name was actually Stanley Lieber, while Jack Kirby (born Jacob Kurtzberg) was his creative partner at Marvel Comics. The Fantastic Four was the first superhero team that the pair created together, with Lee as writer and Kirby as artist, and Marvel's First Family made their comics debut in 1961.

In the upcoming movie, which is the first time the Fantastic Four have appeared on screen as part of the MCU, Moss-Bachrach is joined by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, AKA Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, AKA Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, AKA Human Torch.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters on July 25 to kick off Marvel Phase 6. In the meantime, get up to speed with our guide to all the other upcoming superhero movies still to come from both Marvel and DC.

<![CDATA[ 1 year and 1 million players later, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor goes 1.0 in September, plus the roguelike Rogue Core's alpha is "starting soon" in a massive day for dwarf enthusiasts ]]> Both Deep Rock Galactic spin-offs had some massive news in store today, as not only did we learn that Survivor will go 1.0 in September, we also got the reveal that Rogue Core is about to get a closed alpha underway.

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor launched in Steam Early Access on February 14, 2024, and it's set to finally get its 1.0 launch on September 17. Even in its pre-launch form, the Vampire Survivors-style take on the space dwarf franchise proved a hit with over 1 million players, and the trailer below includes some fun Easter eggs for fans – like a can of DW40K, poking at the common comparisons between DRG and Warhammer 40,000.

Meanwhile, we also got a look at gameplay for Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, which takes the core of the original co-op game and spins it into a roguelike format. This one will be hitting Steam Early Access at an unspecified date, but the notable bit in the trailer is confirmation that a closed alpha is "starting soon," and sign-ups should be imminent.

The Deep Rock Galactic fandom is famously wholesome one, even though the original game this is all based on is about worker exploitation and facing overwhelming odds against endless arrays of massive hordes of alien monsters. Maybe that trauma is what binds the community together - and maybe why they have so much in common with Dwarf Fortress fans. You know, besides the whole rock and stone thing.

Deep Rock Galactic roguelike dev says innovation for innovation's sake is too expensive to survive: "We're a studio of 50 people with bills to pay."

<![CDATA[ New early access mech extraction shooter and battle royale looks like Transformers Beast Wars, and the child in me is very excited for it ]]> Steel Hunters is a new early access extraction shooter-cum-battle royale with a mech twist fom the World of Tanks devs. Instead of burly soldiers competing for loot over the course of an hour long match, mechs battle it out for 10-15 minutes before you call it a day. Some of them look like they're straight out of Transformers Beast Wars, and I can't wait to get stuck in myself.

Two-person teams of mechs gather loot and more powerful gear while battling other groups of players to make it to the extraction points on a post-apocalyptic Earth. It's the kind of battle royale and extraction loop you'll be used to if you're a fan of these genres. It's the mechs that really make it stand out.

The 2,010 Steam reviews for the game are currently "mixed." Generally, the combat and mission structure is being praised. It's a slower paced game than something like Armored Core 6. Your mechs are big and lumbering, not agile and rocket-powered. They can tear through buildings, and watching old houses crumble is a sight to behold.

"It does feel like I'm controlling a big, kinda clunky, heavy tank on two (or four) legs," writes one player on Steam. "Moving around isn't a completely seamless thing, it's something you have to carefully consider. Knowing how good your position is, what your escape routes are, and how you can maneuver around cover better than your enemy."

You've got your standard bipedal and tanky mechs, but what really stands out to me are the animal ones. These are much more agile than the other varieties, so there are multiple ways for you to play.

Unfortunately, players have noted a fair few issues. As a free-to-play game, people aren't too happy with how slowly things unlock if you're not spending any money. Also, battle pass progression is gained purely through completing weekly challenges, so regular gameplay doesn't level it up like in Fortnite.

A lot of the other complaints sound like standard early access teething issues such as login difficulties and server problems, but one review notes that these are already being addressed by developer Wargaming, so hopefully more improvements are on the way.

If big mechs aren't your thing, check out some of the best free games you can play right now.

<![CDATA[ Analyst says Nintendo could take the hit on Switch 2 tariffs if they stay as they are now, but previously "expected them to raise by $50 to $100" for US customers ]]> Some fans may have been worried that the Nintendo Switch 2 was going to get even more expensive in the United States following the recent tariff announcements, and it sounds like one analyst was previously expecting a significant price hike, which certainly wouldn't go down well with the crowd already begging Nintendo to "drop the price."

Important context here is that Nintendo Switch consoles have been manufactured in Vietnam for some time now, with some production first starting in 2019 (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), and Bloomberg reports that around a third of Switch 2s are assembled there. However, when US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs last week, Vietnam was heavily impacted, with massive 46% tariffs set to significantly increase the cost of imports from the country.

It's now been announced that a 90-day pause on tariffs is in place for many affected countries – Vietnam included – although even in countries like this, there's still a new 10% levy in place on most US imports. In a comment published by Bloomberg, Robin Zhu, an analyst at Bernstein, expects that if things stay at 10%, "Nintendo probably keeps pricing at $450 and just takes the hit on margin."

As far as customers are concerned, this definitely sounds like a better outcome than what Zhu was previously expecting to happen. "At 46% Vietnam tariffs, I expected them to raise by $50 to $100," Zhu notes.

Obviously, the situation is still evolving, so anything could happen yet. Taking a hit on the cost incurred by any tariffs is what former Nintendo marketing leads Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang are also anticipating Nintendo might do, with Yang previously suggesting that this "would repair some goodwill with their current fan base" following the backlash of the current $450 pricing. With that said, she also thinks the company is probably "seriously considering" a price increase, but hopes it'll ultimately settle on the decision that's bound to come across more favorably to customers.

Last week's Nintendo Switch 2 news gave us our first proper look at many upcoming Switch 2 games, but the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date announced then has been pushed back in the US and Canada as a result of the tariffs.

<![CDATA[ Impress your D&D party with over $740 saved on two exceptional TTRPG-enhancing bundles ]]> Humble is over here being an absolute hero once again, this time with two smashing bundles based around D&D 5e. The first is a Dungeons & Dragons book bundle brimming with Kobold Press titles. They're calling it the Heroic Hoard of 5e Power. The second is more digitally-focussed, on the other hand. Adventures & Adversaries is an STL miniatures bundle that brings heaps of different digital mini models to your preferred VTT. These are some serious savings, so definitely not worth passing up if you're looking to really improve your D&D campaigns.

When it comes to upping your game for one of the best tabletop RPGs out there, there's hardly a better way than supplementing it with a dragon's hoard of third-party content. If it's new subclasses, eldritch innovations, well laid-out rulebooks, sourcebooks, and heaps of other campaign resources you desire, the Heroic Hoard book bundle contains 44 PDFs full of D&D 5e content for just $25 for US folk, or £19.28 in the UK. That's a titanic saving of £325.83 or $416, respectively. Act fast, though, because it's only around for the next two days (until April 12).

If you're already drowning in D&D PDFs, or virtual tabletops are more your speed, the Adventures & Adversaries bundle throws in 50 gorgeously sculpted STL files, along with a couple of adventure modules for you to make the most of them. This one comes in at £15.50 in the UK for the lot, or $20 for US VTT enjoyers. Against the bundle's overall RRP, that's a saving of £255.27 or $326 altogether. There's a little longer left on the software bundle, with 11 days still to go.

Heroic Hoard of 5e Power book bundle | $441 $25 at Humble
Save $416 - This is a powerhouse of a D&D book bundle from one of the most well-known and prolific 3rd party content producers around. It's one of those bundles that shouldn't be passed up, considering a saving that immense.

Buy it if:
✅ You're looking to spice up your D&D experience
✅ You're a Kobold Press fan

Don't buy it if:
❌ You prefer physical books rather than digital

Adventures & Adversaries software bundle | $346 $20 at Humble
Save $326 - With 50 STL files and two adventure modules to accompany them, there's so many goodies included in this bundle. That's especially true if you've managed to nab one of the best 3D printers, because these would cost a bomb to buy physically.

Should I buy the Heroic Hoard of 5e Power book bundle or Adventures & Adversaries?

Leading with some of Kobold Press' most beloved compendiums – the Deep Magic and Vault of Magic books – I'd say you're already getting what you paid for regardless of the rest. There are over 700 new spells for 5e, including some wild magic types (including blood, apocalypse, void, and rune magic) in Deep Magic alone. The Heroic Hoard of 5e Power bundle manages to pull together a boatload of invaluable content from across the company's vast library, including the Book of Blades series that's set on expanding each Class to within an inch of it's death saving throws, and the Warlock series that adds Bearfolk, Lost Elven Courts, and (of course) silly Kobold content like murder spoons and trash juice. It's a fantastic book collection and it's worth over £345 or $441.

For those looking to pad out their collection of digital minis, the Adventures & Adversaries bundle has you covered. With these gorgeously sculpted designs from Next Level Miniatures you get a radical collection of painted and unpainted Cultists, Elementals, Goblins, Golems, a feral Wolf, and even a Hellhound alongside heaps more humanoids. You can add them to your VTT for an online campaign session full of fantastical encounters, or if you've managed to nab yourself one of the best 3D printers, you can of course print them for painting at home.

For more why not check out some of the best D&D books around (official ones, that is)? We even have a guide of the best D&D gifts, in case these aren't cutting it.

<![CDATA[ "I hope I get to play him again": Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion would love to play the RPG's beloved vampire in a sequel, joking he'd "have to be dead" before being recast ]]> Neil Newbon, the iconic voice behind Astarion, arguably one of the most popular Baldur's Gate 3 companions, says he'd love to return as the vampire elf in a potential sequel.

Speaking in a recent interview with TheGamer during BAFTA's Games Awards, the Baldur's Gate 3 actor jokes that he'd "have to be dead" before allowing another voice to take over as Astarion in future games. While Newbon jests while saying so, he would seriously like to take on the role of the white-haired companion once again, if possible – and as Hasbro is "talking to lots of partners" about the next Baldur's Gate, it could happen.

"Listen, I have no control over that," explains Newbon, "so, ultimately, if somebody played him in something else, I'd just hope that they'd come at it the same way I did, in terms of looking at the core character and their life story and their history and their backstory, and honor that story as much as possible, and not run to a trope." He can't foretell the future, though. "I don't know what's going to happen. I hope I get to play him again."

He's not the only one who'd be willing to act as one of the companions again in a new game, either. Shadowheart actor Jennifer English also previously admitted to having similar thoughts, saying she's "open" to returning for another RPG. As a dedicated Baldur's Gate stan myself, I'd personally love to see some of the original cast make a comeback in Baldur's Gate 4 or whatever's next to release in the fantastical Dungeons & Dragons-inspired universe.

Anything is possible as of now, especially as Hasbro's cooking up the hotly anticipated sequel while working on another shiny new D&D game that stands separately from the series, too. Neither will come from Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios, however, as the company is focusing on its own original titles right now –"two very ambitious RPGs" with one project codenamed Excalibur, as revealed by the studio last year.

<![CDATA[ Apple TV just released a very brief first look at the new season of hit drama series with a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score Slow Horses ]]> Apple TV Plus has released the first, very brief look at Slow Horses season 5.

The streamer released a 95-second clip, which you can watch below, showcasing everything releasing on the platform this summer. Other titles included in the teaser are new series like the Owen Wilson-led sports comedy Stick and sci-fi actioner Murderbot, and movies including Fountain of Youth, a heist film led by John Krasinski and Natalie Portman, and Echo Valley, starring Sydney Sweeney and Julianne Moore.

As for the Slow Horse sneak peek, there's a brief shot of the City of London by night, followed by a glimpse of Gary Oldman's Jackson Lamb. It's unclear exactly where he is or what he's up to, but it looks like he might be in an elevator in one of the financial buildings in the previous shot.

Slow Horses season 4 premiered in September 2024 to a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show had already been renewed for its fifth season eight months prior in January 2024, and it's been full steam ahead ever since: a season 6 renewal followed in October 2024, and Oldman confirmed filming was already well underway in January 2025.

The series follows a group of MI5 rejects, led by Oldman's Lamb, who have been relegated to desk jobs instead of being fired but somehow still find themselves entangled in the world of international espionage. Season 5 will be based on Mick Herron's novel London Rules, while season 6 adapts two books in the series, Joe Country and Slough House.

Slow Horses doesn't have an exact release date yet. While we wait for more updates, fill out your watchlist with our picks of the other best shows on Apple TV Plus.

<![CDATA[ Former PlayStation boss says the platform wars are effectively over since "only the dog can hear" the difference between consoles now ]]> Former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden thinks the console wars are effectively over, and gaming can't grow much with just three manufacturers – Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo – dominating the console sphere.

Speaking to PlayerDriven, the man who was in charge of PlayStation during most of its iconic PS4 run said he wants to see "more people playing, more people making games." But to do that and for "game machines to have the same penetration rates as television sets," Layden reckons we need to move past "only having three manufacturers."

Part of his reasoning is that the internal architecture of the Xbox Series X, PS5, and high-end PCs are "all quite close" and "very similar." Most tech advancements made from here on out are almost negligible as Layden jokes "only the dog can hear" the different between machines nowadays.

"In my idealized dream, there's some day going to be – just like the Blu-ray format and MP3 format and MPEG format – all these different formats that are agreed upon by a consortium of industries," he said. "We need something similar along the same lines with the game format."

"Let people compete with content because I want more boxes out there," he continued, arguing that more consoles from different manufacturers would help gaming become the most "socially impactful" entertainment medium and not just the most profitable.

Of course, handhelds like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally are a step in that direction, and mobile games are arguably even more popular than consoles, but there's no denying that PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo steer the industry more than anyone.

Check out everything we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 so far.

<![CDATA[ "There were some blatant f**k-ups": Path of Exile 2 devs rush out emergency patches after nerfs lead to review bombing on Steam ]]> Grinding Gear Games has had a rough time since Path of Exile 2 launched. Original Path of Exile players feel like that game has been pushed to the wayside while the devs shift focus to the sequel, but the latest patch for PoE 2 has led to it being review-bombed on Steam.

Despite a new class being introduced, a series of nerfs have seriously upset players. "How do you have a relatively good first patch then wait three months, nerf everything, and make the campaign a worse experience," writes one Steam user. The 11,502 recent reviews are "mostly-negative."

The general feeling is that everything has been slowed down too much. One player who was looking forward to the new patch has been thoroughly disappointed. "I'd rather just go into work than play this game right now," they write. A previous patch was "build-destroying," so it's not been a good early-access period for the ARPG.

"There were some blatant f**k-ups, speaking bluntly," says game director Mark Roberts during an interview with streamer Zizaran, as reported by Kotaku. Some of these mistakes, according to players leaving negative reviews, include nerfing the player character and their minions while buffing enemy longevity, making fights feel like more of a grind.

Luckily, the devs are paying attention and have already released a batch of rapid changes with more on the way tomorrow. Monster speed is going to be addressed to stop you from becoming overwhelmed, and several boss fights will be tweaked to tip the scales back in your favor a bit. The minion revive timer will also be adjusted, so it shouldn't keep resetting to 7.5 seconds, meaning you can get your goons back into the fray faster.

Hopefully, these new changes appease players, and the reviews start going back up. As the Helldivers 2 CEO notes, games that get review-bombed this badly "do not generally recover."

In the meantime, check out some of the other best RPGs you can play right now.

<![CDATA[ Undertale follow-up Deltarune will feature a "special room" that uses controls "only possible on the Nintendo Switch 2" ]]> It's official, Deltarune is coming to the Switch 2, but that's not all – the version dropping on the new Nintendo console contains a special area geared toward Switch 2 players.

The Undertale follow-up's official website highlights this unique area and how it makes use of the Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers' new mouse controls, with creator Toby Fox calling it a "very small SPECIAL ROOM which takes advantage of using MOUSE CONTROLS ON TWO CONTROLLERS AT ONCE, only possible on the Nintendo Switch 2!" The developer points interested fans toward the new Deltarune trailer, where they "can see it."

If you're watching the trailer yourself, you'll spot the room about 38 seconds into the video. No need to fret if you're an Undertale and Deltarune stan without a Switch 2, though – Fox says "if you can't get your hands on a Nintendo Switch 2 right away, the other versions of the game also have THE SPECIAL ROOM," just "with a completely different control scheme" to make up for the lack of Joy-Con mouse controls.

It's certainly reassuring to hear, but that's not all – the creator also clarifies that there's "no meaningful difference in content amount, dialogue, setting, music, etc. between any version, so you will have a full package of fun no matter which you get!" As he puts it, "No one gets left out!" That's good to know, especially as many of us longtime Undertale lovers have been waiting a good while for Deltarune to further progress.

Deltarune has been ongoing over six years now, with Fox confirming late this past fall that its long-awaited Chapters 3 and 4 would "100% come out in 2025." At the tail end of 2024, the beloved dev created an online thread with frequent updates on the coming chapters' progress, recently revealing that the first four chapters will all be available to play on June 5 – the same exact date that the Switch 2 itself is set to release.

Here are some of the most exciting upcoming Switch 2 games to look forward to, many of which we got a good look at during last week's Nintendo Switch 2 news.

<![CDATA[ After debuting with a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, Netflix renews smash-hit Devil May Cry anime series for season 2 ]]> Hot on the heels of its premiere, Netfix's Devil May Cry animated show is already getting a second season. Created by showrunner Adi Shankar, the animated series adapts the popular Capcom video games in which main hero Dante does high-octane battle with increasingly powerful demonic foes.

The first season of Devil May Cry, which runs for 8 episodes, has already received praise from critics and audiences alike, debuting at number 4 on Netflix's global top ten list, with a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 95% fresh.

Devil May Cry season 2 promo image featuring Dante

Here's how Netflix describes the show:

"In this animated adaptation of the popular Capcom game and from the vision of Adi Shankar, sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."

Devil May Cry season one features two posthumous voice roles from actor Kevin Conroy, best known for voicing Batman on Batman: The Animated Series, and Tony Todd, best known for his role as Candyman in the classic '90s horror film.

"What I wanted to do with this was three things. First of all, the original anime was very much like a monster of the week-style format, until you got to the last three episodes – then it was an arc," Shankar told GamesRadar+ ahead of the release of Devil May Cry season 1. "But this one, I wanted it to feel like a giant movie, like a Hollywood blockbuster from between 1999 and 2004. References being The Matrix, Underworld, Bad Boys, Equilibrium – I could go on, and on, and on. But I wanted it to feel like a Hollywood blockbuster, and, really, I wanted the audience to experience Devil May Cry in that mold."

No release date for Devil May Cry season two has been announced.

Stay up to date on the new anime coming our way with our guides to One-Punch Man season 3 and Frieren season 2.

<![CDATA[ And just like that, Monster Hunter Wilds' endgame is way more fun: a big pink bubble fox has saved us from Arkveld and Gore Magala, and there's more help on the way ]]> One of the biggest criticisms of Monster Hunter Wilds is that its endgame is too easy. Luckily, Mizutsune is the newest tier eight Tempered monster you can hunt, and people are loving the challenge it brings.

But if you've been trying to beat Mitzutsune, you may have to try even harder with its new Tempered form.

"I've done several hunts now, and the flipping vertical tail slam attack from enraged Tempered Mizutsune keeps one-shotting people, sometimes two hunters at a time," writes one hunter on Reddit. "It comes out so fast, too. I've even felt its wrath once. The damage skyrockets way beyond normal Mizutsune. Was this intentional or is there something I'm missing here?"

Despite the challenge, players seem to agree the Leviathan has good hit zones, solid openings and trips, threatening attacks, and, best of all, it doesn't smother the camera like Gore.

If you need a reason to face off against the beast beyond just the challenge itself, it also has some great gear for several weapons.

Tempered Mizutsune doesn’t play around from r/MonsterHunter

Not everyone loves the armor, but they still think the fight itself is ace.

"I want to take a moment to mention how amazing Mizutsune is," writes a fan on Reddit. "The model is absolutely gorgeous. Easily the best-looking monster in the game. The fur looks so soft, and the iridescence in the scales looks fantastic. The fight is also extremely fun. Bubbleblight is still a solid status that I find more amusing than annoying. Overall I think the difficulty is pretty perfect. I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan of the armor sets, but the weapons are great."

There are other apex monsters like Rey Dau and Uth Duna that will become tier eight Tempered in the future, but Mizutsune is a good break from the weeks of Gore Magala and Arkveld we've had to deal with.

So, if you bounced off Monster Hunter Wilds because the endgame wasn't hard enough for you, now is the perfect time to get back into it.

In the meantime, check out the best online games you can play with your friends.

<![CDATA[ Hollow Knight lead playtester's new Kickstarter game is another slick Metroidvania that's also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 ]]> Hollow Knight's lead playtester is working on another Metroidvania, but its Kickstarter campaign promises it's being influenced by loads of other classics too.

Hari 'Graig' Dimitriou, who worked with Team Cherry on the original subterranean adventure and a little bit of its long-awaited sequel Hollow Knight Silksong, is now making Roc's Odyssey, a side-scrolling, comic book-style, post-apocalyptic Metroidvania that has almost everything you loved in Hollow Knight: intense fighting, slick platforming, a zig-zagging map, and secrets tucked away in every corner.

Developer Sunshine Festival Studios is inspired by more than just Team Cherry, though. Roc's Odyssey also pulls together "the stylish combat of Marvel vs. Capcom, the NPC interactions of Persona, the high-flying chaos of Super Smash Bros., and the level design mastery of Donkey Kong Country...this game is built for players who crave action, challenge, and discovery," according to its Kickstarter description.

It's not very easy to imagine what a 'Persona meets Hollow Knight' game actually looks like, but it's just a simple way of saying that Roc's Odyssey has some floaty platforming and fighting in a world you're free to explore, and you can even find and recruit NPCs to join your cause. "Call allies into battle, each bringing unique abilities and devastating attacks to the fight," the description continues, explaining where the Persona stuff comes from. "Strengthen your bonds through shared struggles, unleashing their full potential as friendships deepen."

Roc's Odyssey's Kickstarter campaign has raised around $6,000 of its initial funding goal of roughly $74,000. Should it reach that milestone in the next 57 days, the team at Sunshine Festival will have enough funding to cross the finish line and bring it to PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2, while future stretch goals might make an Xbox and PS5 port possible.

There's currently a free demo on Steam if you'd like a small taste of the final game.

Roc's Odyssey has an estimated 2027 release, so why not check out all the other upcoming Switch 2 games in the meantime.

<![CDATA[ "Catch my goofy a** card game in the new season": LocalThunk celebrates as Balatro appears in Black Mirror season 7, months after its creator proclaimed his love for the roguelike ]]> Anyone still hopelessly engrossed in Balatro might do a bit of a double-take when they catch up on the latest season of Black Mirror because there's an Easter egg for LocalThunk's hit roguelike to look out for.

If you've not watched Black Mirror's seventh season yet, don't worry, you're not going to find any spoilers here. Alternatively, if you've already watched the whole thing and thought Balatro had taken over your brain to the point that you're now imagining it everywhere you look, then no, that moment hasn't arrived (yet). As of the third episode, Hotel Reverie, as LocalThunk puts it: "Balatro is now canonically in Black Mirror."

As you can see below, this isn't just a blink and you'll miss it, hidden in the background reference – the game is on full display on a laptop screen, front and center. "Catch my goofy ass card game in the new season of Black Mirror," LocalThunk writes on Bluesky.

While it's certainly a nice surprise to see the game show up, perhaps we should have seen it coming. Last August, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker revealed himself as an enormous Balatro fan, noting that he plays it "in short bursts when I'm writing to reward myself." He also predicted that "humankind's activity is going to drop about 25%" when the mobile ports launched, and he probably wasn't too far off the mark with that figure.

Balatro has had quite the week – even before its Black Mirror appearance, it took home a BAFTA award for the best Debut Game, which was accepted by Final Fantasy 16's Clive actor Ben Starr, dressed as Jimbo the Joker. It was a very fun (if not weird) moment, even though the game's developer wasn't the one on stage accepting the award. "So what if my only contribution to Balatro was that trailer and a bit of sucking on a banana for a few seconds?" Starr asked. It was a very important contribution, to be fair.

Wildly successful Balatro publisher says more indie devs need funding "that isn't based on making a ridiculous amount of money back."

<![CDATA[ Midsommar director’s upcoming comedy western gets its first look at The Last of Us and Joker stars facing off ]]> The first look at Hereditary director Ari Aster’s new movie Eddington has been revealed, and it looks like Pedro Pascal and Joaquin Phoenix are feuding in the upcoming feature.

The image, which you can check out above, shows Pascal and Phoenix standing on a sidewalk in what looks like a small town. The two are engaging in some kind of argument with Pascal pointing his finger and Phoenix holding his hand out as if he is trying to calm Pascal’s character down. As well as the first look, A24 has also shared the movie’s first poster on Twitter, which you can see below.

Eddington is written and directed by Ari Aster, best known for his horror works Hereditary, Midsommar, and his chilling short The Strange Thing about the Johnsons. The upcoming movie, which is being described as a contemporary western black comedy, marks the fourth team-up between Aster and A24, with his last film with the studio being Beau is Afraid, also starring Phoenix.

A24 has also released an official synopsis for the movie, which reads: "In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico." Emma Stone and Austin Butler also star.

This news comes right after the Cannes Film Festival announced Eddington as part of its In Competition list. Eddington will be competing for the Palme d'Or at the 78th festival, alongside The Phoenician Scheme by Wes Anderson, Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind, and many more.

However, Aster’s new film isn’t the only star-studded title to have its world premiere at Cannes. Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, will also show, although the action film is not competing.

The Cannes Film Festival takes place from May 13 to 24. For more, see our list of the best western movies, or keep up with upcoming movies.

<![CDATA[ The original 1977 cut of Star Wars: A New Hope is getting an extremely rare screening this summer ]]> Star Wars fans will have the opportunity to see the original theatrical cut of Star Wars: A New Hope with an extremely rare screening in London this summer.

The 1977 version of the first Star Wars movie will be shown on the opening night of the BFI's Film on Film festival this June, which celebrates all things celluloid. Since 1997, George Lucas' Special Edition of A New Hope has been the version most widely available to watch, and the original is very difficult to find.

The revised edition includes several new additions, which have proven to be controversial among fans. For example, in one scene in the Mos Eisley cantina, Harrison Ford's Han Solo no longer shoots first when he kills the bounty hunter Greedo, and Jabba the Hutt is also introduced, when originally he doesn't appear in the movies until 1983's Return of the Jedi.

Only the original cut of A New Hope is on the cards to be screened at the Film on Film festival, and the BFI doesn't currently have plans to show the theatrical cuts of Episodes 5 and 6, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

When it comes to new Lucasfilm releases, next up on the big screen from the galaxy far, far away is The Mandalorian & Grogu. Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin will make his movie debut, and he'll be joined by Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White (and, of course, Grogu).

The Mandalorian Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22, 2026. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the other upcoming Star Wars movies and shows on the way.

<![CDATA[ Severance star Adam Scott "really, really f****d up" an ER scene with The Pitt's Noah Wyle back in 1995 ]]> Adam Scott shared a scene with Noah Wyle back in 1995 – and the Severance star says it didn't exactly go very well.

"There was a long take of me being wheeled in through the entire ER as Noah Wyle and [Sherry Stringfield] have dialog above me," Scott explained to Decider. "It’s this long take, right? And we went through the whole thing. They got their lines perfect. Everything was great. Except I had taken my breathing thing out of my nose and had forgotten to put it back in."

A then 22-year-old Scott guest-starred on ER during the long-running show's very first season. In the episode 'Full Moon, Saturday Night,' some pretty whacky stuff goes down in the hospital – including a patient who believes he's a werewolf and a slew of frost-bitten fraternity pledges.

Scott plays David, a young who is admitted to the emergency room after getting hit by a car. He's treated by none other than Dr. John Carter, played by Noah Wyle. You can watch the brief clip below.

Continued Scott: "I raised my hand and said something about it. And I was brand new. It was one of my first jobs. And somebody told me that I really, really fucked up. I was so scared. I didn’t know what was gonna happen to me. I thought I may get the death penalty, which is really scary."

Wyle, after starring in ER from 1995 to 2011, recently returned to the medical drama world as Dr. Michael 'Robby' Robinavitch in The Pitt. Both he and Scott are arguably two of the most viral leading men out there, with Scott receiving praise for his role as Mark Scout in Severance. Hopefully, we'll see the two share the screen again someday.

All 15 seasons of ER, including Scott's aforementioned episode, are available to stream on Hulu. The Pitt is streaming now on Max. Severance seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Apple TV Plus. For more, check out our list of the best new TV shows coming your way in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ Fallout star Walton Goggins acted out the final 30 minutes of The White Lotus season 3 for his wife because he was so stressed about spoiling it ]]> Walton Goggins has revealed he had "so much anxiety" about accidentally spoiling the end of The White Lotus season 3. The Fallout star revealed that he'd kept the details of the finale secret from his wife since they filmed, but he finally cracked a few weeks back.

But before we get into that, be warned that we'll be discussing big spoilers from The White Lotus season 3 finale below.

If you're still here, then you'll know that Goggins' Rick was one of the victims of the latest episode. He was shot dead by Gaitok after he murdered his father and his girlfriend Chelsea was killed in the crossfire. Dramatic, right?

Well, it turns out that Goggins was super concerned about dropping spoilers. "It’s the Super Bowl of culture," Goggins said on Late Night with Seth Meyers (via Variety). "I told no one. And about three weeks ago it had gotten to a place where it was just causing me so much anxiety and [my wife] was visiting me in Los Angeles, and so I just decided to reenact the last 30 minutes of the show for her, and I did all of it. I don’t have a lot of dialogue, right?"

The Ghoul star went on to explain that he even mimed picking Chelsea up and falling in the water as he does at the end of the episode. He added: "What was so cathartic for me was she started to cry and she got wrapped up in these people and this moment and understood what that last moment was. This walking with Chelsea in Rick’s arms, he would have walked for eternity."

The White Lotus has already been commissioned for a fourth season but no details have arrived yet. However, creator and writer Mike White has hinted that it might not stick to the coastal setting next time around.

<![CDATA[ Happy Death Day director confirms his Arachnophobia reboot has been scrapped: "A classic case of creative differences" ]]> Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon has shared the most disappointing of updates on his Arachnophobia reboot: it's been officially scrapped.

While promoting his new thriller Drop, which sees The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy navigate a first date from hell, the filmmaker explained that if Atomic Monster and Amblin wind up moving forward with their planned new take on the '90s horror comedy, it'll be without him.

"I wrote a script that I loved. I actually think it was one of my best," Landon told The Wrap. "But the problem with that is that you still have to deal with other people who have different opinions about what kind of movie we should be making. This was a classic case of creative differences and it was something that I was not willing to change."

Going on to describe his exit as a "calm separation", Landon recalled how "plot-driven" his script was and speculated whether it was its "much bigger set pieces" that put the production companies off. "It was definitely a more expensive movie," he admitted. "That was another thing I think that made everybody a little bit nervous."

Directed by Frank Marshall, Arachnophobia sees a poisonous spider hitch a ride to rural California inside the coffin of a nature photographer, who died during an assignment out in Venezuela. When the bodies start piling up stateside, new-in-town physician Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels), who just so happens to be deathly afraid of eight-legged fiends, is forced to face his fears as he teams up with exterminator Delbert McClintock (John Goodman) to fight the rapidly escalating infestation.

Drop releases in cinemas on April 11. For more, check out our guide to the most exciting upcoming horror movies heading our way.

<![CDATA[ The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller is available to pre-order, and here's where we recommend you get yours ]]> If you're as excited as we are for the launch of the new Nintendo Switch 2, this June, you may be wondering where to pre-order the Switch 2 Pro Controller. This new pad looks like it'll take what was great about the original Switch's pro pad and boost it into 2025, even giving you two back buttons at the same time. After Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders for the console itself, this might be one of the most popular peripherals Nintendo is launching with this new generation, so be prepared for stock shortages.

Straight out of the gate, the Switch 2 Pro Controller looks as though it's primed and ready to be one of the best Nintendo Switch controllers. Of course, you can actually use the older Pro Controller with the new handheld if you're on a budget. But the $79.99 / £74.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller brings HD Rumble 2, the new 'C' button for GameChat, an audio jack, and new mappable back buttons to the table.

Any US fans may have a hard time trying to find one, though. Some of the biggest retailers don't even have the controller available, and if they do, there's no pre-order option to be found. In the UK, just like with Nintendo Switch pre-orders, it's a lot easier to pre-order yours in time for its launch on June 5, 2025, as sites like Very, Smyths Toys, TheGameCollection, and even the official Nintendo store itself all have pre-order stock at the ready. If you're eager to have the full spread of Switch 2 accessories come June, we've gathered all the Switch 2 Pro Controller stock we can find below.

The original Switch's pro controller still sits atop our list of favorite gamepads for Nintendo's versatile console. Despite its name, it doesn't actually have a lot of "pro" features to speak of, but it does the basics incredibly well, it plays great across multiple genres, and it still has some of the best battery life of any pad on the shelves. Like any Switch controller though, it has had its stick drift issues, and now we know that the Switch 2's Pro Controller doesn't remedy that with Hall sensor thumbsticks, you may want to look elsewhere is that was a serious burn to you last time around.

Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller FAQ

When does the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller launch?

The official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller launches on June 5, 2025. Just like the rest of the official first-party accessories, the brand-new controller will become available on the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2 console.

Should you buy the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller?

If you intend to spend most of your time playing the Switch 2 in docked mode and don't fancy using the Joy-Con 2 controllers to do so, the Switch 2 Pro Controller is an ideal alternative.

The gamepad comes with all you need to get the most out of your brand-new handheld, including HD Rumble 2, motion controls, amiibo-reading compatibility, a capture button, the new 'c' button to toggle on GameChat, mappable GL/GR Buttons, and an audio jack to hook up a wired gaming headset. Not to mention, its ergonomic shape makes it a more comfortable alternative to the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, which still feature that flat-black as the previous ones.

If that all sounds good to you, then the Switch 2 Pro Controller is probably right up your alley. However, its price might be a deal-breaker for some. At $79.99 / £74.99, it's pricier than the older controller. It's also a lot of cash to spend on a console that comes with controllers from the get-go, and not everyone has the budget to fork out on additional accessories. If you're on a tight budget, you could stick with the Joy-Con 2 controllers and invest in the official Joy-Con 2 charging grip, which is cheaper and transforms them into one gamepad.

Alternatively, there's also the very valid option of sticking with the previous Pro controller, that is, if you have it. You won't be able to use GameChat, benefit from the upgraded HD rumble, or make use of the new audio jacket, but it's still a versitile controller and a valid (and cheaper) option until you want to make the next-generational leap. Even better, you could hold out and wait to see what third-party controllers are confirmed to be compatible with the Switch 2.

Both the new Joy-Con 2 and Switch 2 Pro Controller are missing hall effect sticks, so they could still be subject to some dreaded stick-drift and a ton of neat features found on controllers from brands like 8BitDo. Not to mention, a lot of third-party controllers can be cheaper too, so if you just wait a little longer, you'll have a bigger pool to pick from and even some discounts when big sales events like Black Friday rolls around later this year.

Can you use the original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with the Nintendo Switch 2?

Yes, you can use the original Switch Pro Controller with the upcoming Switch 2. The official Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Compatibility list states that the older pro controller can be paired with the new handheld via Bluetooth, and it can be charged by connecting it to the new Switch 2 dock.

Sticking with the current Pro Controller can save you vital cash, which is great if you're trying to keep costs low as possible with the Switch 2. But it will also mean missing out on some of the new features, including the upgraded HD rumble, the Gamechat 'c' button, and the newly included audio jack.

If you're other consoles are getting jealous, why not pick up one of the best PS5 controllers, the best Xbox Series X controllers, or the best PC controllers and give your gaming setup a gamepad-sized boost.

<![CDATA[ "Terrible financial decision on my end": Switch 2 hopeful moves out of new apartment and flies over 800 miles to be first in line for the console at Nintendo's unopened San Francisco store ]]> A second Switch 2 fan has decided to camp outside of a Nintendo store two full months ahead of the console's launch date. This time, in San Francisco, making it a truly coast-to-coast phenomenon.

Last Saturday, April 5, one YouTuber declared themselves the first in line for the Switch 2 outside Nintendo's New York store. Now, someone else has done the same, but this time, in San Francisco. They're going to be camping outside the shop for two full months, they hope, to be first in line for the console. At least the weather will be better there.

Super Cafe flew "over 800 miles" to do this. "I've only lived in my apartment two months, I just moved out, a terrible financial decision on my end," he says. "Whatever, who cares?"

What's wild is that the Nintendo store in San Francisco isn't even open yet, so Super Cafe is getting there real early. They're currently doing it alone and have put out a call for others to join them if they also want to get a Switch 2.

My main question is, how are these two able to do this for so long? Either they're lucky and have jobs they can do from the sidewalk or they've saved up enough to just rough it on the streets for a while. Or, there is no plan and they're just winging it. Only time will tell.

Switch 2 pre-orders are delayed in the US due to uncertainty surrounding Trump's tariffs, so it seems people have resorted to desperate measures to make sure they can get their hands on one.

In the meantime, check out all the upcoming Switch 2 games that you have to look forward to.

<![CDATA[ Netflix launches a game based on the Black Mirror season 7 episode with Will Poulter's Bandersnatch character ]]>

Netflix has launched a video game based on Black Mirror season 7 – specifically, the episode featuring Will Poulter's Bandersnatch character.

Thronglets is said to be a lost Tuckersoft game cancelled in 1994, unearthed now. Players must take care of their Thronglet creatures, which will then multiply. But, Netflix warns, "these cute critters won't just take over your phone; they could take over your life."

"This gameplay is not just about managing virtual pets; it's about exploring the depths of human nature and the consequences of our digital obsessions," says the streamer.

Through playing the game, you can also unlock Ritman Retrospective videos, said to be from a documentary about Colin Ritman, AKA Poulter's character. At the end of the game, you'll also get a personality test to share online.

You can play the game via the Netflix app on your phone, and it's free to play with no in-game purchases. A glitchy, creepy trailer for the game can be viewed above.

"The idea for this episode came first," Charlie Brooker told GamesRadar+ of bringing back Poulter. "And then, while writing it, I thought, 'Well, the character Cameron will go to the games company, and wait a minute, what if it was…' Because I really loved writing Colin Ritman – and Asim's [Chaudhry] character Mo, but Will's character Colin Ritman was one of my favorites ever to write in Bandersnatch.

"He's slightly grandiose, somewhat absurd, but also sort of, like, really cool, but weird, nerdy," he continued. "There was something just mercurial that I found fascinating. So I just wrote him in, hoping that we could get Will back. And he was up for doing it, which was great, because he's such a fun character to write."

<![CDATA[ Lego Marvel Iron Spider-Man and Iron Man Bust sets just dropped and we're getting them... Why? Because I said so! ]]> Prepare yourself for Lego Marvel's newest unveiling, the Peter Parker and daddy Stark dynamic duo, in Lego bust form. The two new Lego sets are the 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust and 76326 Iron Spider-Man Bust which will officially release July 1 and August 1, respectively. And with movement and detailing like this, these sets could well be contenders for our list of the best Lego sets.

The Iron Spider-Man is now available for pre-order in the US, while both sets are already available to pre-order in the UK. You can nab the Iron Spider-Man Bust for $59.99 on the Lego store, or on Amazon for the same price. The Iron Man MK4 Bust on the other hand is not ready for pre-order. It's currently listed as "coming soon", though we at least know it'll cost the same.

UK folk are able to grab the Iron Spider-Man Bust pre-order for £54.99 at the Lego store, or Iron Man for £54.99 also at Lego.

Both sets are poseable and twistable, so you can position Stark to stare at Peter with that ridiculous sense of hesitant paternal instinct. I've had a bit of a deeper look below, so you can see exactly what you're getting with these new Lego sets.

As spiritual successor to the now defunct 76285 Spider-Man’s Mask, this 6.5-inch bust features the iconic Iron Spider suit from Avengers: Infinity War and comes with its very own Spiderling (crime fighting Spider, Spider-Boy?) minifigure.

This one has a rotatable head, and two movable arms and heaps of detailing on the armor. It also comes with its own Lego Marvel Label, in case you forget who you're looking at. With the pair sitting on your mantle, you can get that fuzzy fake father-son feel without breaking out one of the Marvel movies.

Appropriately coming with slightly more pieces than the Lego Iron Spider-Man Bust set, this one also stands 6.5 inches tall (17cm) and is super poseable. With shoulder cannon detailing, adjustable flaps on the back and a rotating head, he's definitely more advanced than his Spidey pal.

Designed around the MK4 armor worn in Marvel Studios’ Avengers and Iron Man 3 movies, it comes with a coffee-table-style guide and, of course, a Tony Stark minifigure to stand proud beneath it.

<![CDATA[ Nintendo Switch 2 scalpers aren't getting nearly as far as they did with the PS5 launch, as fans are mobilizing to boot them off resale websites ]]> Nintendo's been making plans to stop scalpers from hoarding Switch 2 consoles and then reselling them for extortionate prices, like they did with the PS5 launch, but the publisher might not have even needed to - fans are fighting off scalpers all on their own, too.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have gone live almost everywhere in the world - apart from the USA because of all those tariffs, sorry - and scalpers were, of course, right behind, waiting to buy up any available stock and attempt to resell the consoles with price tags far higher than even Nintendo's.

Emboldened by the promise of a playable Moo Moo Cow in Mario Kart World, fans are now fighting back. All across the Nintendo subreddit, there are dozens of posts both complaining about scalpers and posting about how to take them out. You see, resale website eBay has a rule against selling items unless it'll be shipped within 40 days - which is impossible for the Switch 2 since it comes out on June 5 - so fans have been reporting scalpers en masse and are mobilizing to make sure others do the same.

"Not all heroes wear capes," one fan commented in response to someone who had taken down multiple scalpers. "You're doing god's work," another comment said, reacting to a fan who had allegedly booted 20 listings off the website.

One of the warriors against scalping even provided other fans with a template to use against early Switch 2 pre-sales: "From eBay's terms and conditions: 'Presale listings must clearly state that they are 'presale' in the title and description, and guarantee postage within 30 days of purchase.' As the games console isn't out for longer than 30 days, this listing breaks the rules, even if they have 'Presale' in the title."

Not realizing fans would do some of the heavy lifting themselves, last year Nintendo revealed one cunning trick to beat scalpers: produce enough consoles from the start. And, earlier this month, the company also said it would limit pre-orders to people who had a "certain amount of time" spent in-game on their OG Switches.

Secured a pre-order? Why not check out the upcoming Switch 2 games that'll hit the console soon?

<![CDATA[ Nintendo is probably "seriously considering" a Switch 2 price increase in the US, but former marketing leads "very hopeful" that it will ultimately "eat the cost" ]]> If there's one thing that fans have been critical about when it comes to the Switch 2, it's its price. However, former Nintendo marketing leads Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang believe (and hope) that the tariff situation in the United States probably won't end up increasing the cost further for consumers – in fact, Nintendo has a golden opportunity to "repair some goodwill" by absorbing the costs itself.

As announced during the flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 news last week, the Switch successor costs $450 in the United States, and with upcoming Switch 2 games going up to $80 in the case of Mario Kart World, these things don't come cheap. This was already enough for many to beg Nintendo to "drop the price," but some fans have since become concerned that the exact opposite could happen as a result of the tariffs recently announced by US President Donald Trump. Nintendo has already delayed pre-orders for the console in the US and Canada because of the tariffs, with the company initially explaining that this was to "assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions."

Discussing the ongoing tariff situation on their YouTube channel, Ellis and Yang – former hosts of Nintendo Minute and NOA's former director of social media marketing and original content, and former senior manager of creator relations and original content, respectively – speculate that there's a few potential options Nintendo could take to deal with the ongoing circumstances. While a price increase to offset the tariffs could be one approach, the pair are ultimately optimistic that Nintendo will deal with the costs itself.

This is something that Ellis is confident the company could feasibly do, noting: "They can do it, they can eat it, it would not make a huge dent in them." Pointing to Nintendo's financial success, he goes on to say that this is "an option a lot of other companies don't even have."

The benefits of this wouldn't just be for customers who wouldn't have to pay more for their already pricey consoles, though. Yang explains: "They have lost so much trust already with the current negative sentiment around price, and around what they're doing with the games and charging the high price for Mario Kart World, this would repair some goodwill with their current fan base."

Furthermore, she continues, this would help if Nintendo is looking to have "a smooth transition between Switch 1 and Switch 2," since "you're not now asking the customer to pay more, you're not giving them a confusing message of 'Oh, we announced this price of $450 and now we have to raise the price for you to get this thing,' you can start immediately with your pre-order strategy as planned, you can start to like work towards your June 5 launch which is coming up very soon. So it does feel like this one helps with the perception, the negative perception that Nintendo has right now."

Reflecting on all the options, Yang thinks Nintendo is still probably "seriously considering" a price increase, but is "very hopeful" that it will ultimately "eat the cost" like explained above. From the company's perspective, she speculates, Nintendo may think that it's "lost so much trust, and we've made this a rocky road in already for so many people. This is the opportunity for us to smooth this out for them, and look at the situation long term."

The tariff situation is constantly evolving – just yesterday, it was announced that a 90-day pause on tariffs is being implemented for many affected countries (but not all). Nintendo still hasn't given an update on its pre-orders in the US and Canada, however, so we'll have to wait and see what its plan is there.

Be sure to keep up with everything we know about Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders.

<![CDATA[ M3GAN is getting a unique rerelease, but people are divided over what it means for theaters ]]> As part of Blumhouse’s 15th anniversary celebrations, the studio is bringing M3GAN back to screens just months before its sequel hits screens. However, the screenings will feature special tech that encourages audiences to use their smartphones.

To shake things up, M3GAN’s upcoming limited theatrical run will use new technology by Meta to give audiences the chance to communicate with the AI doll via a chatbot. As reported by Variety, the technology is called Movie Mate and allows viewers to use their Instagram accounts to access exclusive content, trivia, and behind-the-scenes info in real-time while the film is playing on screen.

To start the experience, attendees will DM the official @M3GAN Instagram account, and the chats will start rolling in. But it's not just messages as the experience will also include "exclusive recorded messages from directors and talent from the films, and surprise special appearances in select markets," as per the press release.

However, fans are divided over the use of smartphones in cinemas. "I don't really want people to be looking at their brighter-than-the-sun screens in a dark room," said one Twitter user, and another echoed, "If this is for all showings, I won’t be seeing this in theaters." But some fans seem to be on board, as one replied, "If they are going to do this with movies that had previously been released, this might be a fun way to get people there."

The screening is part of Blumhouse’s Halfway to Halloween celebration. The studio will bring a selection of their best horror movies back to cinemas for one night only, with the special M3GAN screening taking place on April 30. Tickets are also on sale for The Conjuring spin-off Annabelle, which will show on May 7, and MA on May 14.

The M3GAN experience will take place just months before its sequel, M3GAN 2.0, is due to hit screens. Written and directed by Gerard Johnstone, the sequel is set years after the original, where M3GAN was destroyed for being evil. However, with an even stronger killer robot looking to harm robot designer Gemma and her niece Cady, the team has no choice but to put M3GAN back together and make her faster, stronger, and more lethal in order to defeat the new enemy.

For now, the Halfway to Halloween screenings are only available in the US.

M3GAN 2.0 hits theaters on June 27. For more, check out our list of the best horror movies, or keep up with upcoming horror movies heading your way.

<![CDATA[ Mike Flanagan's Carrie TV series adds Resident Evil actor – and we already know who she's playing ]]> Casting for Mike Flanagan's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie is hotting up, with Siena Agudong being the latest addition to the Amazon TV show.

According to Variety, the actor – best known for her roles in Netflix series No Good Nick and Resident Evil – is set to play Sue Snell, a main character in the 1974 book who is regularly interviewed about Carrie, and what came to be known as 'The Black Prom', by its narrator.

Just yesterday (April 9), it was reported that Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky) was "nearing a deal" to star in the titular role. With that, we should probably expect more names to be announced in the coming days, ahead of the title kicking off filming this summer in Vancouver.

Described as a "bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White", Flanagan's new take promises to explore how the telekinetic teen's secluded life; domineering, zealot mother, and cruel peers led to the emergence of her mysterious, dangerous powers and a tragic event that shook the community of Chamberlain, Maine.

In the source material, Sue is one of the students who bullies Carrie. Unlike Chris, Billy, and some of the others, though, she starts to feel extreme guilt over their treatment of her and encourages her boyfriend, Tommy, to invite Carrie to the fateful dance in the hopes of it making her feel more confident and included.

Two years after Carrie was published, Brian De Palma directed a big screen adaptation with Sissy Spacek as its lead. The film grossed over $30 million, from a reported budget of less than $2 million. Amy Irving played Sue in that version.

Kimberley Peirce revisited the story in 2013, with Chloë Grace Moretz bringing Carrie to life. In that movie, Sue was portrayed by Gabriella Wilde.

<![CDATA[ Amid backlash over Switch 2's paid answer to Astro's Playroom, former Nintendo of America president looks back on success of free pack-in games like Wii Sports ]]> After the recent Nintendo Switch 2 news and the reveal of Welcome Tour, the controversial software that basically functions like a paid user manual or mix of Astro's Playroom and PlayStation Home, one former Nintendo of America president fondly looks back on free pack-in games like Wii Sports.

Unlike Welcome Tour on the Switch 2, Wii Sports came with Wii consoles entirely for free at launch (everywhere except Japan, at least). The same can be said for software like Astro's Playroom on the PlayStation 5. Welcome Tour, on the other hand, takes users through the ins and outs of Switch 2 hardware for a fee rather than for free.

It's seems it's not only fans that aren't too impressed with the pricing of the Welcome Tour software, however. Reginald "Reggie" Fils-Aimé, who served as Nintendo of America president from 2006 to 2019, has started an online thread in which he highlights free pack-in games from the Wii era, with Wii Sports and Wii Play (the latter of which didn't come for free with the console, but bundled in with Wii Remotes). While he doesn't formally bring up Welcome Tour in any of his posts, the timing is impossible to ignore.

Nintendo users seem to agree, too. "Hahaha, guys," comments one fan, "I think Reggie is watching our comments about the Switch 2." Another simply says, "Reggie seeing the Switch 2 discourse," a reaction image attached. Further down, someone jokes, "We know you would have packed in Welcome Tour." The former president has yet to respond to any of the replies under his interestingly-timed thread himself, though.

As a longtime Nintendo stan myself, I'd love to think his posts are actually subtle shots at the new console's paid launch software. There's no way of telling what Fils-Aimé is thinking, however, but either way, one thing's for certain – I personally won't be paying for Welcome Tour come the Switch 2's long-awaited arrival on June 5, especially after setting aside a whopping $450 or so for the Switch 2 pre-orders.

Here are some of the most exciting upcoming Switch 2 games to look forward to.

<![CDATA[ As the Devil May Cry anime soars up Netflix's most-watched list, the DmC games on Steam are getting a boost of up to 20 times the player count ]]> Netflix's new Devil May Cry anime has proven to be incredibly popular on the streaming service, making it to number four in the top ten global English-language shows. It also seems to have inspired people to go and play the games, as Devil May Cry 5 and more have seen a huge spike in players.

The new anime follows game protagonist and half-demon Dante before we ever met him on consoles. In the show, he's a demon hunter for hire who has to save the world from a demonic invasion and the White Rabbit, a foe we only saw in the Devil May Cry 3 manga previously. So, this is a much younger Dante than we're used to.

As spotted on ResetEra, the anime is only behind Arcane for the number of hours watched in its first week. It's even ahead of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and that show drew loads of people back to the sci-fi game, just like Devil May Cry is doing with, well, Devil May Cry.

Since the show was released, the number of people playing Devil May Cry 5 on Steam has gotten about ten times higher. It's even pushed the game into the global top sellers, which is pretty impressive considering that's ranked by revenue and the game is currently 75% off.

Other games in the series have benefitted too. The confusingly named DmC: Devil May Cry is up about five times its normal player count, and the HD Collection which contains 1, 2, and 3, is up more than 20 times what it was before the anime aired and even has a new all-time concurrent player peak.

In Devil May Cry 5, you can control Dante, Nero, and a new character called V, so it's worth a go if you've not played anything from the series in a while.

<![CDATA[ The writer of Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's Star Wars movie gives a very positive update: "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think" ]]> The writer of Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's Star Wars movie has given a very positive update.

Not much is known about the film yet, but Ryan Gosling is reportedly starring, and it's set after The Rise of Skywalker on the Star Wars timeline.

"I am [excited] too," writer Jonathan Tropper told Screen Rant. "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think."

The next Star Wars movie to release is The Mandalorian & Grogu, which will arrive in theaters in May 2026. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has previously said the Levy movie would arrive afterwards. "I'm producing the Mandalorian movie right now, and I'm also producing Shawn Levy's movie, which is after that," she commented.

Beyond these two projects, there is also a Rey movie in development, with Daisy Ridley returning to her Star Wars role. However, there's no word yet on when that might be arriving in theaters. The most recent update for that project is a new writer following Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight's departure: George Nolfi will now write the script. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still directing.

Next up for Star Wars is Andor season 2, which arrives on Disney Plus this April 22 in the US and April 23 in the UK in a triple episode premiere. The Mandalorian & Grogu, meanwhile, is coming on May 22, 2026.

<![CDATA[ 10 years after Daredevil first premiered on Netflix, fans are reflecting on the legacy of "one of the greatest comic book series of all time" ]]> On the tenth anniversary of Daredevil premiering on Netflix, fans of the Man Without Fear are sharing the love for the show online.

All 13 episodes of season 1 dropped on the streamer on April 10, 2015, meaning Charlie Cox has been playing Matt Murdock for a whole decade. The Netflix show went on to run for three seasons before it was cancelled in 2018 and was eventually moved over to Disney Plus, along with the rest of the Defenders Saga, in 2022. Cox reprised his role in a new series, Daredevil: Born Again, which premiered on Disney Plus earlier this year.

"Damn! That’s insane that it’s already been 10 years. Netflix did an incredible job nailing the gritty street level version of Hell’s Kitchen while making each episode feel very raw with emotional stakes," tweeted one fan in response to an anniversary post.

"Charlie Cox was the perfect casting for Matt Murdock/Daredevil who brought a lot of intensity and vulnerability to the character. Vincent D’Onofrio brought a whole new layer of depth to the character Kingpin. Season 1-3 was some of the best Marvel content I’ve seen on tv."

"One of, if not, the greatest comic book series of all time…" wrote another, while someone else said, "One of the greatest pieces of live action comic book media. Anyone that has never seen this is missing out."

"No way it’s been 10yrs since Daredevil dropped. It gave me that grit, trauma, and hallway fights that’ll live rent-free in my brain forever. Happy 10yrs to one of the real ones!" another tweeted.

Daredevil: Born Again is streaming weekly on Disney Plus. Make sure you don't miss next week's finale with our Daredevil: Born Again release schedule, or check out our spoiler-free verdict in our Daredevil: Born Again season 1 review.

<![CDATA[ Minecraft screening reactions go to the next level as one fan takes Chicken Jockey too literally and brings a live bird to a movie theater ]]> It looks like A Minecraft Movie viewings are getting a little out of hand, as on top of throwing popcorn and toilet roll, one fan went as far as to bring a live chicken to the movie theater.

The footage of the incident, which has since been posted on YouTube, shows two boys wearing creeper masks holding up a live chicken when Jack Black’s character Steve says "Chicken Jockey" in the movie. The rest of the video sees the chicken in the foyer of the movie theater, then later in the car park – that poor little bird.

This is just the latest incident to come out of Minecraft Movie screenings. It has become a trend amongst teens to throw popcorn, drinks, and toilet roll, and scream and shout when certain meme-able lines such as "I am Steve" and "Let’s Minecraft" are said in the movie or when some of the most recognisbale A Minecraft Movie Easter eggs, references, and cameos appear. One screening got so out of control that the police were called.

Reactions to this behaviour have been mixed, with many saying it's nice to see young people going to the movie theater again. Director Jared Hess recently responded to the trend, telling Entertainment Weekly, "I've seen so many funny videos. It's great, especially when people are climbing on their friends' shoulders and standing up and cheering for those moments... I'm just glad people are making memories with their friends and families."

However, others are not happy with the amount of destruction it is causing. In fact, in the UK, one cinema has banned children from attending evening screenings of the film in an attempt to reduce the amount of "disturbances," as reported by the BBC. The report goes on to say that anyone caught recording or disrupting showings would be "ejected from the screen without refund."

Regardless, A Minecraft Movie has smashed everyone’s expectations, becoming one of the best video game movies, and holding the biggest opening weekend for any video game adaptation ever. Based on Mojang Studios' Minecraft game, the movie follows four regular world humans (Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen) as they get pulled into a strange cubic world inhabited by in-game character Steve (Black).

A Minecraft Movie is out now. For more on the movie, check out our A Minecraft Movie review or read our guide on A Minecraft Movie ending explained.

<![CDATA[ Hoping to move away from "casual" game development, former Astro Bot, Bloodborne, and Demon's Souls producer launches new "world-class" studio ]]> Following his work at Sony's Japan Studio on some of the most beloved FromSoftware titles, including Bloodborne and Demon's Souls, producer Teruyuki Toriyama has founded his own company.

Sirius Studio, as the new game company is called, was formed by Toriyama and Sega veteran Hideki Irie alongside a few other industry veterans with histories at AAA developers, such as Capcom. Standing as a wholly owned subsidiary of GZ Group, as reported by Automaton, the studio's focus will largely be dedicated to the production of console and VR/XR games, but will include PC and mobile game development, too.

Toriyama's decision to found the new studio stemmed from the wish to move away from the development of more "casual" games, as Sirius tells Famitsu in a recent interview. He hopes to produce bigger projects with his company, with "a philosophy of creating a world-class development studio." The official Sirius Studio website confirms as much, outlining that very same plan to cement the company as a "world-class" name.

Although GZ itself leans more into the PC and mobile side of the gaming world, Sirius will be more strictly console and VR-oriented, with an aim to globally release any developed titles at the studio. Toriyama's company currently boasts 20 members, each with experience in AA and/or AAA game development, with plans for further expansion. There's no telling what the future holds for Sirius just yet, but it certainly sounds big.

Need something to look forward to? Here are some of the most exciting new games this year and beyond to keep an eye on.

<![CDATA[ Nintendo clears up online confusion, confirms physical Switch 2 Edition games come with the original game and next-gen upgrade on the same card ]]> Physical Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games include the base game and the next-gen upgrade all on the same card, despite rumors to the contrary.

Nintendo cleared up the online confusion earlier today in a statement to Vooks, confirming that Switch 2 Edition physical boxes aren't just Switch 1 cards with a download code attached, although "some publishers may release Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games as download codes in physical packaging, with no game card."

Last week, physical collectors were in a bit of a frenzy over a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition box cover that said it "Includes the Nintendo Switch game and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. Upgrade pack also available separately." A customer service representative then seemed to confirm the pricier next-gen boxes would only include the next-gen upgrade as a code, which isn't actually what's happening

Bundling a download code with a Switch 1 card would mean people wouldn't be able to borrow or buy second-hand Switch 2 copies without also paying for an upgrade pack, and it would have been especially worrying to anyone concerned about game preservation because, you know, how would anyone new access that extra content once the Switch 2's eShop eventually goes dark? Thankfully, Nintendo first-party games, at least, are taking a simpler route.

Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games were already a little contentious since Nintendo is essentially charging for tech enhancements on a select few OG Switch games, though Super Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten Land are also getting all-new content, in fairness. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are the only other currently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games.

Otherwise, if you already own any of them on the original Nintendo Switch, you can simply pay a fee on the new console to get all the upgrades. Games such as The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are getting totally free upgrades, too.

For now, check out some of the other upcoming Switch 2 games to look forward to after the console launches on June 5.

<![CDATA[ Daredevil: Born Again star says that season 2 will be "amazing" and "even more exciting and crazy than the first" ]]> Daredevil: Born Again might have one episode to go in season 1, but star Ayelet Zurer has teased how exciting the second season is set to be. The Vanessa Fisk actor opened up about the returning Marvel show, which is currently filming in New York City.

Speaking to GamesRadar+ about whether she's read the scripts yet, she said: "I am excited. I think it's an amazing season, even more exciting and crazy than the first but I can't say more than that."

While it's just a small tease, it's a compelling one, as set photos have revealed the return of Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll on the streets of the city. There will likely be a lot to cover in the confirmed second season 2, too, given how much has been set up already for the Daredevil: Born Again season finale.

Indeed, in the latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again, Vanessa's role in Foggy Nelson's death was revealed by Matt Murdock. While we don't learn much more than the fact she was involved, it was a shocking twist nevertheless.

The reveal came as a surprise to star Zurer as well, who explains: "It's hard. I mean, first of all, because I understand, you know, as Ayelet, what the role of Foggy represents for the fans. I'm like, 'Ah, I'm feeling all feelings'. But also at the same time, I understand that there's always consequences."

She adds: "Listen, they gave Vanessa this season so much intrigue and power and complications and emotional journey that I have gratitude towards it, because even though, you know, sometimes I was worried, now that I know what we've done, I'm proud and I'm happy about it."

<![CDATA[ Former Sony exec says Nintendo can charge $80 for Switch 2 games because of its exclusives: "If it's the only place you can play Mario, then you get your wallet out" ]]> Some 45 years ago, Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto sat down and created a potbellied Italian plumber who lives in Mushroom Kingdom to be the player character in 1981's Donkey Kong — now he's the reason Nintendo is charging $80 for some of the upcoming Switch 2 games. Or at least, that's one reason for the software price hike, according to former Sony Interactive Entertainment president Shawn Layden.

The topic of the Switch 2 price and the $80 Mario Kart World is so hot right now that I truly feel like I've written this same story before, but well, here we go again. Yes, the Switch 2 is $450 in the US, although opinions differ on whether that price will stick after president Trump's tariffs, and yes, some games are going to cost $80, including the number one heavyweight of the Switch 2 launch lineup, Mario Kart World. Lots of people have lots of things to say about all of this, including Layden, who reckons folks will still line up to shell out for everyone's favorite shell stomper.

Pushing back against the current industry trend away from console exclusivity, Layden argued during a recent episode of the PlayerDriven podcast (timestamp) that, at least for Nintendo, exclusives are major drivers of hardware sales.

"Right here you see, 'wow, that's kind of a hefty price hike from Switch 1 to Switch 2 and, wow, 80 bucks for a game?' But if it's the only place where you can play Mario, then you get your wallet out and you buy into it... and Donkey Kong and Zelda. That first-party exclusivity mitigates that sticker shock, if you will, of these price hikes, because you want that content so bad."

Ultimately, we won't know if Layden will be proven correct until the months and years after the Switch 2's release when we can have some long-term sales data to look at, but it's likely true that Nintendo has a loyal base of diehards that'll pay whatever they need to in order to play new Mario, Donkey Kong, and Zelda games. What remains to be seen is just how large that base is, and whether the console will have the same mass appeal of its wildly successful predecessor.

Nintendo Switch 2 hands-on preview: After four hours with the Switch 2 it's clear that this is a true evolution.
