Areas of work
FAO supports the development and implementation of nationaland regional strategies, action plans and programmes aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), theobjectives of the Paris Agreement and Net-Zero Emissions by 2050.
FAO's Energy-Smart Agrifood Systems programme is aimed to:
- Enhance the use of renewable energy sources for agriculture by promoting and integrating renewable energyinto agrifood systems. This may support environmental sustainability, including by reducing GHG emissions, it maydrive economic and social development, and thus contributes to enhance the overall sustainability.
- Explore ways to derive sustainable bioenergy from agriculture to improve local energy security, create incomeopportunities for farmers, promote green jobs and rural development, and foster a sustainable bioeconomy.
- Advocate for the adoption of energy-saving technologies across agrifood value chains to improve the efficiency and sustainability of energy in agriculture and reduce the impacts of agrifood systems.
