Crews battled a house fire on Wednesday in the 500 block of Gia Circle in Upper Darby Township.
The initial call was shortly after 4:15 p.m. for trash on fire in front of the house, but soon crews were told the house was on fire.
According to fire radio traffic:
The first crew on scene reported fire showing from floors two and three on one side of the duplex and a 2½-inch hose line was going in service.
Soon more crews and lines went in service. A second alarm was struck. Searches of the structure were negative.
The incident was placed under control at 5:22 p.m.
Upper Darby Professional Firefighters added later:
“C” Platoon Engine 74 was dispatched to the 500-blk of Gia Circle for a reported trash fire. As E74 went responding, Delaware County Emergency Services 911 advised they were receiving multiple calls now reporting a house on fire and were upgrading the assignment.
Due to a heavy column of smoke from a distance, UD Car 3 (Calamia) requested the working fire dispatch, bringing mutual aid companies to the scene. E74 arrived to find heavy fire showing from the 1st and 2nd floor of a twin duplex and lead off with a 2½” attack line to quickly knock the bulk of the fire.
1st alarm companies found fire extending into the 2nd floor and cockloft areas of both sides of the twin, so Command struck out the 2nd alarm for additional resources. The fire was placed under control at the one hour mark with no injuries reported and is currently under investigation by the Upper Darby Fire Marshal.
