The Kwikset Kevo, now a second-gen product, is a smart lock that you can open with a single touch. Click through to take a look at what it has to offer.
Touch-to-unlock
The second-gen Kevo looks and works almost exactly like the first-gen version. You can still open it with a tap if it detects your phone outside the door. There are some subtle improvements on the inside, though, including an easier installation and a sturdier design.
Smaller interior footbprint
The inside half of the second-gen Kevo is also noticeably more compact than before.
App setup
The Kevo app does a nice job of walking you through the setup process. All you really need is a screwdriver and a tape measure.
Lock history
You can also manage users and view each lock's activity history in the Kevo app for Android and iOS devices.
Key fob
There's also an optional Bluetooth key fob accessory you can buy for $25. It'll take the place of your phone, giving you touch-to-unlock access whenever it's in range of the lock.
Kevo Plus
Another optional upgrade: the $100 Kevo Plus Wi-Fi gateway. Plug it in and pair it with the lock, and it'll relay the lock's signal to the cloud. That'll let you monitor and control the lock from your phone when you aren't at home.
Stronger design
The new Kevo is also designed to resist brute-force attacks, including a specific one that works on the first-gen model. We tried it again this time and marred the hell out of the lock in the process, but the Kevo wouldn't budge.
Price
The new Kevo costs $230, a slight increase over generation one. That's a little disappointing, especially given that the key fob accessory no longer comes included. Still, that touch-to-unlock functionality is pretty tempting... read our full review to see if we think it's worth it.
