Can Civic Education be Liberal? | Summer Honors Program Recording

By Benjamin Storey | David Corey

June 14, 2024

Civic education is experiencing a renaissance on American college campuses, with new initiatives and even whole academic units dedicated to it cropping up across the country. How should we understand civic education in our time?  What are its highest intellectual ambitions, and how can it contribute to the knowledge-seeking project of the university?  How does it relate to another great educational tradition, the tradition of the liberal arts? This panel investigates these questions, seeking to understand the ties and tensions between liberal and civic education in our time.

This session was hosted as a part of AEI’s annual Summer Honors Program

The Summer Honors Program is an intensive, fully-funded educational and professional development opportunity for top undergraduate students. Situated in the heart of Washington, DC, the program provides participants the opportunity to connect with the ideas, research, and network of AEI. Click here to learn more.
