Fighting Spirit (2000)

Ippo Makunouchi is a shy high school student with hardly any friends and no time to make any either, as he often has to help his mother, Hiroko, at the boat rental shop. At school, Ippo is ignored by his classmates and sometimes even bullied and beaten. One day after school, when he is once again beaten by his classmates, the professional boxer Takamura comes to his aid. Impressed by how Takamura makes the bullies flee, Ippo asks himself what it means to be strong. From then on, he trains day after day to become a successful boxer, making new friends but also meeting strong rivals.

Ippo Makunouchi ist ein sehr schüchterner Schüler, der kaum Freunde hat und auch keine Zeit, um welche zu finden, da er oft seiner Mutter Hiroko im Bootsverleih helfen muss. In der Schule wird Ippo von seinen Mitschülern nicht beachtet und von einigen sogar gemobbt und geschlagen.

Als er eines Tages nach der Schule mal wieder von seinen Mitschülern geschlagen wird, kommt ihm der Profiboxer Takamura zu Hilfe. Beeindruckt davon, wie Takamura die Schläger zur Flucht bewegt, stellt sich Ippo die Frage, was es heißt stark zu sein. Von da an trainiert er Tag für Tag, um ein erfolgreicher Boxer zu werden, und lernt dabei neue Freunde, aber auch starke Rivalen kennen.

Ippo Makunouchi es un estudiante muy tímido, que casi no tiene amigos y tampoco tiene tiempo de búscar a unos, ya que tiene que ayudar a su madre en el alquiler de barcos. En la escuela Ippo es ignorado por sus compañeros y de algunos es acosado y golpeado. Cuando un día es golpeado de sus compañeros después de la escuela, el boxeador profesional Takamura acude a su rescate. Impresionado por cómo Takamura hace huir a los matones, Ippo se pregunta qué significa ser fuerte. A partir de ahí entrena día tras día para convertirse en un boxeador exitoso y conoce a nuevos amigos, pero también a fuertes rivales.
